Dear Human Resources Department ,

I am writing this letter in recommendation of Joshua Floyds employment as a music teacher in your
school district. I first got to know Joshua (and his work ethic and creativity) when he joined my staff of
the University of Arizona Outreach Honor Band, teaching trumpet and horn to middle school students
each week. I have worked closely with him in individual and group settings, and offer my
recommendation of him without hesitation.

Joshua completed his music education degree at The University of Arizona in the Spring of 2017, and
after a successful student teaching partnership at a public school site serving diverse and underrepresented
elementary students (per his request specifically). While at the U of A, he completed additional
coursework related to his other passion: gender and womens studies. He is highly interested in eventually
pursuing graduate studies because of his interest in conducting qualitative research in music education
through the lens of gender and womens studies. His preparation, organization, creativity, and skill set as
a trained classical musician and ally of traditionally marginalized populations have prepared him for the
rigors of school teaching in diverse communities.

Josh is professional, respectful, eager to learn, and intelligent. He is an engaging communicator (which I
find rare amongst undergrad students). I attribute much of his success here at the U of A to his maturity
and his tenacity to seek feedback and apply critiques. You will find Joshua to be a hard worker, while
maintaining a stand-out respectful personality and a quiet humility.

At this point in his life, I believe Joshua Floyd is eager to jump fully into his teaching career, and if given
the opportunity, I feel he would thrive. I am willing to offer more anecdotes and materials in support of
Joshua, if necessary, so please do not hesitate to contact me via phone or email. Best of luck as you select
your next incoming class.

Sincerely,

Dr. Karin Nolan
