WHY THE
WAR WILL
END IN
—1917--—-
BY
SEPHARIALTHE OLD FEUD.
IN review of what has already transpired since the
outbreak of the Armageddon, it must be obvious to
many that most of our statesmen, and even those who
claim some prescience of mundane affairs, have failed
to-foresee its course and duration, and even now are
doubtful as to its issue. They have, in fact, failed
to find its true place and purpose in human history.
These great conflicts, which from time to time
have spread death and devastation over wide areas,
are nothing but the climaxes of slumbering animosities
which had their beginnings in Family feuds far back
in the ages, which found constant outlet in the Tribal
Wars, and assumed portentous phases in the great
International Warfare of the past. Deep down in
the roots of human evolution and development we
shall find two distinct branches pushing out as rival
representatives of human polity. They are radically
inspired by two distinct characteristics. One is
animated by the belief that “Might is the only
Right,” and is responsible for all that vandalism,
rapine, plunder, and devastation that the weaker
nations have continually suffered at the hands of
their stronger and less scrupulous compeers and
neighbours, The other branch of the human family
is that which is animated by the belief that “‘ Right
is the final Might,” and to which all lovers of peace
and justice, truth and equity, have looked for shelter
and comfort.
The Forecast.
There are prophecies that clearly point to this
great and final conflict of the two forces, but people4 WHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917.
have failed to recognise that they are in process of
fulfilment. The Powers of Light, the upholders of
Faith, Hope and Charity, the lovers of Truth and
Justice, are seen in deadly warfare with the Powers
of Darkness, those who delight in Envy, Hatred,
Malice, and all Uncharitableness. They are re-
spectively referred to as the “Kings of the North”
and ‘‘the South,” and Daniel the prophet has figured
them as the Medes and Persians in war against the
Greeks, these being the typical images of the two
forces existing in his day. The spirit of the Persian
autocracy became manifest in the Schwabians and
Prutzi, the ancestral root of modern Prussian Despot-
ism. The Greek spirit animates the French Empire,
which had its root in Charlemagne, and it will extend
its influence to the year 2089.
The same conflict, under different imagery, is
depicted by John of Patmos in the Apocalypse, where
the “ War in Heaven” is the precursor of that Arma-
geddon which we now are passing through in the
world, In this conflict Michael and his angels are
seen to vanquish the Dragon, outnumbering his forces
by two to one, for the Dragon drew only “a third
part of the stars of heavenas a following.” The stars
are here the symbols of human souls.
But apart from these Biblical references to the
Armageddon, which was to take place after the ful-
filling of the “times of the Gentiles,” so that Jeru-
salem, which has been under the foot of Turkey for
so many centuries, should be restored to the Jews,
there are signs in the Sun and the Moon and Stars.
Europe Clear of Turks in 1921.
The Crescent of the Turkish Empire is already
waning to extinction and disappears in 1921, when
the Russians under Michael shall drive the Turks
out of Europe, and the Powers shall restore Jeru-WHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917. 5
salem to its hereditary owners. The new Jewish
zgis will be developed some seven years later, and
1928 will see its restoration well on the way to
completion. At that time we may “look up, for our
redemption draweth nigh.””
The Kaiser’s Sudden Death Predicted.
How do we know these things for true? We know
them by the same signs as those from which this great
War of the Nations was conspicuously predicted. In
the ‘‘ Manual of Astrology ” (1896),* there occur these
words:—
“The Emperor of Germany has a most fateful
horoscope, and during his reign the German Empire
will suffer reversals of which hitherto it has had no
shadow of experience. The destiny of Kaiser Wil-
helm is such that he will lose nearly the whole of his
possessions and . . . he will be denuded of his power
among the nations. It is not improbable that his
territory will pass into the hands of France and
Russia. These at least are the powers that will
contend for possession of the Empire which the
Kaiser will be powerless to retain. The Kaiser will
die suddenly and the heart will be the seat of the
fatal affection. Nothing more adverse than this
horoscope of the Kaiser, except perhaps that of the
Sultan of Turkey, is to be found among the rulers of
Europe.”
Abdul the Damned.
It will be remembered, no doubt, that the then
reigning Sultan of Turkey, rightly named “ Abdul
the Damned,” was deposed and exiled, and was lat-
terly reported as continuing in great indigence.
The Fateful Year.
But coming close to the period of the outbreak of
the War we have the following singular predictions
* London: Robert Hayes, 61 Fleet Street. 10s. 6d. net6 WHY THE WAR WILL END IN 10917.
in the current issue of “The Green Book of Prophe-
cies” for 1914, written and printed long before there
was the slightest indication of any such world catas-
trophe, and already in the hands of the people, when
it was officially announced that “Never in the fiscal
history of our country was there a more suitable
opportunity of reducing our expenditure on the Army
and Navy.” So much for political prescience! The
prophecy is as follows :-—
July, 1914.—" There are signs of a sharp agitation
in the commercial world. Financial strain is shown,
and there is a tendency to panic on the markets.
Disbursements on further munitions of war will give
rise to alarm in commercial centres. The develop-
ment of political affairs at this time is not reassuring,
and about the 25th the indications tend to a crisis of
an acute nature, There will be war-talk throughout
the country, and the trade and financial interests of
the nation will suffer. It is greatly to be hoped,
however, that France will be in a position to confirm
the entente cordiale by a timely mediation. The foot
may be in the wrong boot, however, and it behoves
the Government to be prepared for the worst, while
striving for the best.”
The Austro-Hungarian Note to Serbia was issued
on July 23rd, 1914, and War declared on July 28th.
August, 1914.—"' The atmosphere is highly charged
with explosives which are in danger of sudden ignition.
About the 3rd our diplomatic relations will be severely
strained. The indications point to a financial panic,
and popular feeling will be at high tension. ‘There
will be much war-talk. . . . The Balkan concert will
now be disturbed, and affairs tend to a crisis in
Austria.”
It was on the 3rd of August that our Declaration
of War broke off all diplomatic relations with
Germany.WHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917. 7
It will thus be seen that there were good and
sufficient reasons for predicting war; and when it is
remembered that these predictions were written in
the spring of 1913, and published in the summer of
that year, it will be obvious that for political pre-
science and intelligent anticipation the Science of the
Stars is infinitely to be preferred to the professed
policy of incompetence summed up in the words—
“Wait and see!”
Reasons for Prediction.
The fate of nations is brought into a focus and
represented for the time being by the horoscopes of
their ruling sovereigns. In the case of Germany we
have a most sinister horoscope, which was struck at
the birth of Kaiser Wilhelm on 27th January, 1859,
at 3 o'clock (Berlin time). Cancer, the ruling sign
of the Germanic people, was rising, and the Moon,
Ruler of the horoscope, was in the lowest part of the
heavens and in the sign of the Dragon (Scorpio),
which is the sign of its fall. Moreover, it was in
direct opposition to Uranus, the planet of disruption.
The Sun, natural significator of worldly empire, was
in the eighth division of the heavens (the place of
loss and undoing, of death and decay), and in
Aquarius, the sign of its fall. It was directly opposed
by Saturn (privation) in the second division of the
heavens (the place of possessions), and Saturn was
also in the sign of its fall. In addition, the malefic
planets, Mars and Neptune, occupied the Midheaven
of the horoscope. Surely the Kaiser was taken up
into a high mountain and shown all the kingdoms of
the world! Alas for the ambition of Lucifer! ‘This
uncrowned Emperor of Germany, the crowned Kaiser
of Prussia, was destined to fall headlong even while
he worshipped. ‘The Black Eagle fell to the rank of
common Vulture!8 WHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917.
The Emperor of Austria.
‘That other vulture, whose reign has been the longest
and most tragic of all among modern rulers, he too
must fall, but not to any earthly grade. For his days
are few, and the signal of his end is that Eclipse of
the Sun which happened on the 21st August, 1914,
and which fell on the places of the Sun, Moon, and
Saturn in his horoscope of birth. And when the
story of his life comes to be written, it will be
found a sordid one indeed, a record of a proud,
relentless heart, an overbearing and tyrannical will,
a loveless life, filled with fruitless ambitions, dark
treacheries and deeds too foul to couple with the
name of Emperor. Let him pass.
The Writing on the Wall.
Mene Tekel is written on the walls of the Hohen-
zollern Palace. For now, at this period of the
World’s history, the ruling sign of Germany has
passed into the sign of the Scales, and Saturn, the
god of Time, weighs heavily against it. Go back
as far as you may into the record of this tyrannical
Prussian people, and you will find nothing but rapine
and lust and devastation. How else came they into
Prussia from Schwaben but by the slaughter of
innocent people of Brandenburg? How else but by
the murdering of priests and ransacking of holy
places? And this you will find true by the testi-
mony of Father Arminius, the Abbot of Lehnin,* who
suffered at their hands, and wrote the doom of these
Wolves from Suabia in a luminous prophecy about
the year 1240, in which, by inference, the present
monarch is spoken of as ‘‘the last of his line.” But
this will be only for a time, for it is said, ‘‘The
Shepherd will regain his flock and Brandenburg her

Kings.” All too clearly, however, the judgment of
Despotism and World-lust is pronounced. It has
been weighed in the Balance and the judgment is
Upharsin: Thou art Wanting! Inadequate, futile,
purposeless, because founded upon vanity and upheld
by merely human authority! The Prince of this
World cannot continue long, but while he has yet
power in the earth the warning should be read and
pondered. ‘‘Woe to the inhabitants of the earth
and the sea! for the devil is come down among you
having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath
but a short time !”
How Long?
This persecution is to last for three and a half
years, or, as it is said: ‘‘a time, times and a half
time.” For just as the times of the Gentiles lasted
for 1260 years, or three and a half times three
hundred and sixty years, so this climax of Armaged-
don is to last for three and a half times three hundred
and sixty days. The “witnesses” lay about the
streets for three and a half days, which means three
and a half years, and ‘power was given unto the
Beast to continue for forty and two months,” which
is the same period.
Now it happens that according to the cycle of years
from which Daniel prophesied the Fall of Babylon,
the world is now under the dominion of the Sun,
whose reign extends to the year 2089. And under
this rule Mars comes into conjunction with Saturn in
the sign Gemini in the year 1914. Among the sons
of Israel this sign answers to Simeon and Levi, of
whom it was said: ‘‘Simeon and Levi are a twin.
Instruments of cruelty are in their hands.” It pre-
figured the great slaughter of the innocent in the
name of Ignorance and its twin brother Fanaticism,
which from old times have wrought evil to the race,10 WHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917.
and which, in these latter days, have ripened through
Knowledge and Devotion into the fair sons of Science
and Religion. By slow and painful evolution they
have become what they are, true champions of a
liberated humanity. This modern Prussian Kultur
is a usurper and a thief. It has no place in
Christendom. And its end is near.
The Great War Ended.
Three and a half years from the outbreak of
Armageddon will bring us to the end of the first
stage, But by what years of tireless effort, of pain
and suffering both of body and soul! For even as
1914 is known as the year of the Great War, so 1915
is that of the Dominion of the Waters, and 1916
is the Year of the Flaming Sword, and in this
year there will be fires and fevers greater than any
that have been known in the world, and it is followed
by the Year of Famine and Pestilence, and finally
by the Year of Peace. For in 1918, about the time
of the vernal equinox, Venus sheds her light upon
the Scales, and they are found to be at rest! And
after this the prophecy of Boudica must be fulfilled
in that sudden and great destruction which shall fall
on the Gate of the Sun. The secret pact with
Prussia will not avail. Babylon the Great is fallen!
The Purpose of the War.
First and foremost of the means to that great
ministry is the task of destroying once and for ever
the recourse of Despots to the arbitraments of war.
In the modern Prussian, as in the ancient Persian
regime, Militarism, as the be-all and end-all of a
soulless “ Kultur,” an affrighted world beholds the
incarnation of all those diabolical forces which, from
time immemorial, have militated against the welfare
of the race. More, they have set themselves againstWHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917. u
the Christ who proclaimed for “peace on earth and
goodwill towards man.” It is our task to root them
out—with the sword, since they have taken to the
sword—and send them to the burning, like the
noxious weeds that they are. At the present moment
we are employing all the resources of science, all the
energy of the people, and all the power of our great
commercial life, throwing into the melting-pot all
the accumulated wealth of a century of years, with
one object in view—to crush the head of this Hydra
who has come up out of the sea. “And I looked, and
behold, a beast came up out of the sea having seven
heads and ten horns, and on the horns were ten
crowns, and upon his heads the names of blasphemy.”
There have been seven ruling Houses over Germany
including this last of Hohenzollern, and there are
ten States ruled over by Princes. This is the modern
mark of the Beast. History repeats itself, and the
world moves in great cycles towards its eventual
climax. The legend of St. George and the Dragon
is called into remembrance. It is the story of the
old feud between the powers of Light and Darkness,
of Spirituality and Materiality, of Humanism and
Diabolism. Finally, we have to regard this great
conflict as a Spiritual War, and for the simple reason
that all men, embodied or disembodied, are spirits,
and spirits are drawn together into nations, not by
any disposition of matter, but by spiritual affinity or
election. Men are what they are because of what
they have been. In this Armageddon of the nations,
the Powers of Evil have been let loose upon the
world so that the ‘‘ War in Heaven,” which was lost
to them, may be continued in this nether region.
Great Revolutions Predicted.
The war will be practically finished in August,
1917, the failing power of the adversary being con-12 WHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917.
spicuous as early as July, 1916, the final scenes
will be enacted in April, 1918, and the downfall of
the Kaiser and his satraps completed. The great
campaign against Turkey will begin in 1919, and
will be finished in 1921. In 1922 Austria will be
reconstituted, but only after a violent internal con-
flict. About the same time Japan will be fiercely
stirred to new efforts and extraordinary develop-
ments. The reign of the Mikado will tremble in the
balance. There has ever been danger in putting
new wine into old bottles. Reforms will be followed
by insurrections, and these by wars, many evils being
experienced between 1923 and 1925. In 1927 the
Franco-Russian Alliance is disturbed, and in the
same year the Great Reformation takes place in
the British Constitution. This will be ratified in
1928, the year of the Great Awakening. ‘This is the
year, also, of Spain’s great unrest, which will last for
two years, being most acute in the ninth month of
the first year and the last month of the second year,
the conspiracy arising out of the Alphonsine de-
parture in 1920.
These things serve only to mark the march of time,
and have no great part in the political and social
climax to which the world is tending. And not only
will the social and political world be then affected,
but all the religious world will be finally involved in
the grand reformation which in the years 1983 and
1984 will be inaugurated by the Heads of the
Churches, Before this the Roman Church will have
been deposed and restored again, and the Holy See
removed from Rome and reinvested, which happens
soon after the conclusion of the Great War.
Two Other Wars at Hand.
So, it will be seen, there are many days of tribu-
lation through which the race generally must passWHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917. 13
towards the place of Peace. But, so far as Europe
is concerned, I see only two great and serious con-
flicts athand. The first, 1921, is that which concerns
Turkey in Europe, and the second, 1931, that of the
Prussian reaction.
That vain and unprofitable scion of the House of
Hohenzollern, who has several times been rejected
by his father and contemned by the people, will
place himself at the head of a political party and
thereby seek once again to restore the fortunes of his
House, so recently, and to all appearance, irredeem-
ably shattered in the Great War. He will have his
supporters, and they will inaugurate a revival of all
those arts of political chicanery and open up again
those terrors of war which people had believed could
never occur again. These things take place after
the ending of the Great War against Prussia and
within fourteen years from the signing of the Peace
of Berlin.
London's Danger Signal.
Enough has here been said to show that astrono-
mical and inspired prophecy are in accord with regard
to the times through which we are passing and those
that are yet in futuro, There is, however, one other
word of warning to which special attention should be
given. In January, 1901, there was a conjunction of
Saturn and Jupiter in the sign Capricorn, from which
the Great War was predicted by the fact of Mars
coming to the opposition of the Ascendant of London
between 1914and 1917, At this time the Midheaven
was in 13 Aquarius. In February, 1916, there is an
eclipse of the Sun in this degree of the zodiac, and at
the end of February the planet Mars will be in direct
opposition to the place of that Eclipse on the meridian
of London, Let the Capital, therefore, look to its
defences during the latter part of February and the
beginning of March, and again about the middle of14 WHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917.
April, for it is extremely probable that an organized
incendiary attack will be made in force upon the
City.
German Surrender in August, 1917.
We may look forward with confidence, however,
to the ultimate victory of the Allied Forces and a
satisfactory termination to this great struggle at the
time appointed. ‘The enemy will be reduced to a
surrender in August, 1917, and Peace conditions
will follow international parleys in the course of a
further six months, Nemesis will wait upon the
earthly representative of the Arch-enemy in April,
1918, and give him a safe conduct into that obscurity
which, to one who has attempted such great heights,
must indeed be a hell of debasement and perdition.
The Readjustment.
We are now in the cycle of Mars in the culminat-
ing sign of worldly ambition, Capricorn, but to this
there will succeed a full Moon that is illumined in the
sign Aquarius, whose influence will come into play
fromthe year 1945. ‘The Aquarian Age of a liberated
humanity upon which the world then enters will be
marked by a beneficent Communism, to which every
man and woman will bring their competence, that
all may go into the melting-pot and be refined, and
divided again, so that all may eat and be filled.
Everything will be devoted to the service of the
race. Anew world will require the formulation of a
new religion. It will find its embodiment in a per-
fected Humanism. But these things are reserved
for the New Age, which cannot begin. until after the
Great Devastation and the Great Peace, following
after an interval upon the conclusion of the Great
War. For let no man think that there shall be no
more war. Other Powers will arise in the likeness
of those that have departed and will be filled withWHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917. 15
worldly ambitions, and the remnant of those that
remain after the first War will be judged according
to their works. Thus there will be warfare in the
East during the years when Turkey shall be driven
out of Europe in 1921, and other great assaults will
take place in the years between 1962 and 1965, and
between 1981 and 1985, until we come to the great
climacteric, which lasts from 1991 to 1997, and which
ensanguines the whole of the East. For the great
dream of the prophets and the seers of the blessed
Millenium will not come in upon the world until the
year 2440, for the Sun must pass its days of tropic
heat and Saturn bring its years of frigid need before
the Star of Peace can rise upon the world and Justice
be finally established among men.
The Coming Race.
That cryptic, and at the same time luminous, writer
of prophecies, Michael Nostradamus, wrote in the
year 1554, that
Great Empire to the English arms shall be
In fullest force Three Hundred years and more;
Her armies vast shall pass by land and sea ;
‘While discontented Spain is vexed and sore.
Accordingly it has come to pass that in proportion as
the British Empire has increased, that of Spain,
once the dominant Power in Europe, has as surely
diminished. From the same signs | know, and here
affirm, that the Anglo-Saxon race will be the para-
mount Power for good in the world during the next
sixteen hundred years, for by no other means than
the complete universality of its influence can the
promise of God to man be fulfilled. Who and where
are they who should be for number as the stars of
heaven, and for multitude as the sand? Who are
the sons of Israel of whom it was said: “Thy seed
shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread16 WHY THE WAR WILL END IN 1917.
abroad to the west and to the east, and to the
north and to the south, and in thee and thy seed
shall all the families of the earth be blessed”? You
cannot say this of the sons of Judah or the modern
Jews, but you can say it, and say it only, of the
British and their world-wide extension in the Anglo-
Saxon race. “A great people, glorying in more
possession and honour than any other people of
Earth. Their empire covers a fourth of this planet,
its populations are over a fourth of its inhabitants,
its trade is a third of the whole trade of Earth.” If
the Messenger from Mars can report thus of Great
Britain alone, how much more can he extol the
Anglo-Saxon race, of which it is but a part? If we
regard as Anglo-Saxon only those peoples whose
native tongue is English, it will be found that, with
its root in Great Britain, the ramifications of this vast
race extend all over the world, to the north and
south, to the east and west, and that its individual
units are like the stars of heaven or the grains of
dust for number. “ In thy seed shall all the families
of the earth be blessed.” To the Anglo-Saxon, then,
has the work of the great Humanism of the future
been committed. Fearless and implacable in War,
matchless in the Arts of Peace, Britannia and her
sons may lift up their heads among the nations,
conscious of the great trust that has been imposed
upon them by Almighty God.
