 The 6th Athens International International Digital Film Festival hosts the
"Tribute to Enviromental Education, Lifelong Learning", which contributes to
the dissemination of science through the power of new media and audiovisual
digital technologies, used by modern scientists around the world. The special
program of screenings will be accompanied by a panel discussion focusing on the
role that documentaries hold in introducing environmental sciences, research and
discoveries to the wide audience. he tribute is implemented through the
Operational Program "Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong
Learning" and is co-financed by the European Union (European Social Fund) and
Greek national funds.
Cinema captures the present, converses with the past and visualizes the
future. Todays digital technology, as a modern way of presenting and perceiving
what can be sensed, gives us unexpected possibilities. Cinema, since its birth,
plays an important role in the recording and study of the world around us.
Documentary is the basic tool for this recording and it is also a meeting point
between film and science.
Environmental issues go beyond the examination of their expression as
natural phenomena, thus they are investigated in the light of social, economic,
political and moral factors that affect them. In this context they constitute a field of
timeless study and simultaneously, they themselves, are a flexible learning tool.
The environment is examined systematically, interdisciplinarily and spherically.
Todays world is changing around us, the natural environment is
changing, animals that used to be part of everyday life tend to disappear, habitats
and ecosystems are being lost and historical information of thousands years,
hiding within them, is being lost with them. Digital technology is the bridge, as it
has the power to record with faster than ever speed, focus at different depths and
capture what traditional cameras could not. The environmental study starts from
childhood and extends to lifelong learning through the connection of formal and
non-formal education, as this is defined by the student and his immediate local
environment. Environmentally conscious citizens realize the seriousness of the
issues and, through environmental education, they learn how to coexist more
harmoniously with the environment and how to contribute to the desired changes.

A special tribute titled Environmental education, lifelong learning will

take place during the 6th Athens International Digital Film Festival. The tribute
includes some truly amazing environmental films, international productions, which
will be screened for the first time in Greece. They all demanded endless shootings
in inaccessible ecosystems by filmmakers and scientists.
Thus the festivals audience will have the opportunity to learn about the
most inaccessible and unknown ecosystems, before the films reach the wide
public. The cranes at the icy Scandinavian mire, the endless variety of toads and
frogs in Ecuador and the unusual environment of peat lands in various places on
the planet are only a few of the subjects that these films approach.
The Production of Athens International Digital Film Festival is a constant
challenge, empowered by a powerful vision.
The Festival offered a new place for creators to show their work. It also
created the conditions for a dialogue in relation to new media. International and
Greek film production, artists and the ideal of art stand as a motivation for the
Festivals people to continue.

Christos N. Karakasis was born in Athens. He studied Film-Theatre-TV Direction,

Computer Science, Music ,drama stidies,drama therapy and Humanities. He has
Postgraduate Diploma in training and development, and Post graduatee diploma
in film and theatre direction .He has supervised, technically supported and
produced various audiovisual events, presentations, adverts, video art projects,
festivals. As a Director-Producer he is active since 1992. His films have been
screened in Greece and abroad and have been awarded in international film
festivals. He is a member of the Greek Directors' Guild .He is the Artistic Director
of Athens International Digital Film Festival (www.AIDFF.com), which achieved
alignment of the cinema reality in Greece with the major international developments
in the Cinema era, which is steadily moving towards the Digital Age. He is the
Artistic Director of the INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE AND ECOLOGICAL
PANORAMA, which contributes to the dissemination of science through the power
of new media and digital technologies currently used by scientists around the world.
He is the writer of a book titled Introduction to Cinema which can be helpful to all
aspiring filmmakers, but also to those who want to study in a direct and concise

VASILIKI KAPPA is the Producer of Athens International Digital Film Festival
She was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She lives and works in Athens.
She is successful writer, registered by literary critics as one of the most disruptive
voices in contemporary literature. Her first book "The hyenas diet" was officially
nominated for a State Prize novel, something that rarely happens for an emerging
writer. Simultaneously she is a visual artist that brings together a wide range of
tools, ranging from painting to filmmaking, animation and video art. Her work as
a multiple artist gave her the opportunity for a direct contact with the audience
and constant experimentation with the idea of artistic identity and its applications
in communication.
She holds a masters degree in Digital Arts (Athens School of Fine Arts). She
also studied painting and has a degree in Film direction, in Ancient Greek
literature and linguistics, a diploma in Acting and in Opera Singing and in
alternative psychology.
She writes literature, theatre, scripts, articles at Koyinta Art Magazine, she has
written and directed theatrical plays that were presented in Greece, Germany and
Romania. As an artist she has held many solo exhibitions and participated in
many group exhibitions around the world (Germany, USA, Finland). In 2010, she
was the main host and presenter at a TV cultural show titled Blow-Up, which
produced a total of 14 episodes that were screened both in Greece and Cyprus
and they are also available on the web, where she introduces artists, film
directors, actors and writers.

ILIAS MISSYRIS ILIAS MISSYRIS Born

in Xylokastro Greece and living in Vaasa, Finland since
1994. Currently culture co-ordinator for the City of Vaasas
Culture Centre and hes the current producer of Vaasa
Wildlife Festival from 1-1-2016. In the past, since 2003, he
was working at the Ostrobothnian museum and Terranova
Nature Center for 12 years as the executive manager and
the artistic director for Wildlife Vaasa Festival. Hes also a
musician keeping up a Greek orchestra in Finland.

Kyzeridi Melina
Geologist, MSc Oceanografy, MSc Geoinformatics, Teacher
Studied at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, at the National
Technical University of Athens, and Didactics and Pedagogic in Sweden. She
worked at the Greek Institute of Geological and Mineral Research in Athens, at
the Hellenic Center of Marine Research, and at the Center of Renewable Energy
Sources in Greece. She worked at the University of Kristiandstad teaching
Geology and aw a researcher at the Environmental Department of Helsingborg
Community in Sweden. Today she is teaching Natural and Environmental
Sciences at the Art High School of Gerakas using Fine Arts and especially

Dr Athena G. Progiou has studied physics and possesses a D.E.A. in Chemistry

of the Atmospheric Pollution and Environmental Physics (Paris VII, 1989-1990).
Her PhD Thesis, in the field of environmental engineering (A.U.Th. Department
of Mechanical Engineering, 1991-1994), is entitled Development of a Three-
Layer Photochemical Dispersion Model for the Calculation of the Formation of
Photochemical Smog. Since 1997, she is Study Director of the company AXON
ENVIRO-GROUP Ltd. She has an important experience in various environmental
issues through her participation in numerous, more than 100 environmental
national and european projects with emphasis on atmospheric pollution.
Furthermore, she is very experienced in project management, coordination and
administration. In this framework she has collaborated with universities, research
centers and private companies. She has participated in more than 100 projects.
She was an EU evaluator for the 7th Framework Programme Proposals and she
is also evaluator for the Horizon 2020 Programme Proposals as well as a
reviewer in scientific journals in the fields of her expertise. Additionally, she has
over 30 publications,. From 1997 to 2000, she was consultant to the Ministry of
the Environment, Planning and Public Works for the studies carried out in the
framework of the project: An Integrated System for the Environmental
Management of Transport. She has participated in the European Programme
AUTO-OIL II performing air quality and meteorological modeling for various
European cities. She is participating in the EU LIFE Programme entitled
Development of A Cost Efficient Policy Tool for reduction of Particulate Matter
in AIR (ACEPT-AIR), 2010-2013. Since 2007, she is also Technical Consultant
with regard to environmental issues for the North Road Corridor of Crete, Greece.
She has participated in the project of the Organisation for Planning and
Environmental Protection of Thessaloniki entitled Industrial Risk and Urban and
Spatial Planning and she has implemented the Strategic Plan of the Athens
Municipality for Climate Change Mitigation.Since 2007, she is a permanet
member of the group of the NTUA for the implementation of the Inventory of GHG
in Greece in the framework of the Kyoto Protocol.
