I. Objectives:

To determine the buoyant force acting on the object at salt water and fresh water
To determine the specific volume of each object
To determine the center of gravity and center of buoyant force

II. Illustrations and Diagrams:

A. Free Body Diagram:
a. Salt Water

b. Fresh water

III. Materials Used:

o Wooden block (1x2x3)
o 1 gal Salt Water
o 1 gal Fresh Water
o Ruler
o 2 Pails
o Digital scale
o Used cloth
IV. Procedure:
Measure the weight of the wooden block using the digital scale.
Write the values in
Fill the each pail with salt water and fresh water, respectively.
Put the wooden block in the pail of fresh water
Using the ruler, measure the height of the water in the side of the wooden block.
Write the values in
Dry the wooden block
Repeat the previous 4 steps using fresh water
Calculate the weight acting on the block in air
Calcute the weight of block in water using the formula Wsub = height submerged
* lenghth * width * density.
Calcite the buoyant force acting on the wooden block using the formula Fb =
volume * specific weight.
Write on
Comment the results.
