THE DIAGNOSIS

SCREENPLAY

Adams Realisation

INT. DAY BEDROOM - ADAM WAKES UP

Adam wakes up from his flashback/dream. HIGH ANGLE. Beer bottles are
seen in the back. He is seen laying on his bed, opening his eyes.
Looks at alarm clock. Clock turns dial. CLOSE UP OF CLOCK TURNING,
SIDE ANGLE. SOUND EFFECT CLOCK. Obvious left side of bed left empty,
suggests his wife used to sleep there. Adam, confused, gets up.
CUT TO BATHROOM Adam begins brushing his teeth. CLOSE UP two
toothbrushes. Adam looks at the spare toothbrush. QUICK CUTS. MIRROR
ANGLE. Adam looks up after washing his face in the sink.
THE DOORBELL RINGS. Adam opens the door.

DETECTIVE:
OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT. Hi. My name is Detective Scott Johnson. Im
looking for Mr. Adam Jones? Are you the owner of this household?
ADAM:
Uh-huh. What seems to be the problem?
DETECTIVE:
Last night we received numerous reports of screaming heard by
neighbours coming from this household. May I step inside Sir?
ADAM:
Well, I can assure you I did not hear anything of the sort last
night. Please, step inside Detective.

They both go inside the house. Adam, having not been in the kitchen
yet, goes through the hallway with the detective, discussing what he
thought the screaming was all about, unaware he has murdered his
wife.
As they go through the corridor, smears of blood begin to appear
across the hall floor and walls.
DETECTIVE:
What the hell is this? Blood stains?!
ADAM:
I-I- they werent there last night!
P.O.V The DETECTIVE speeds up through the hall and notices the
back door is open. The DETECTIVE gasps as he sees Selmas lifeless
body on the floor.
DETECTIVE:
Jesus Christ!
ADAM:
Selma? SELMA?! Oh my God Selma!
DETECTIVE:
Hold it right there. (DETECTIVE grabs him by the arms). Do not step
any further!
ADAM (CONT.):
Bu-but thats my Selma! Thats my wife! What have I done?! What have
I done?!
DETECTIVE:
Mr Adam Jones, I am arresting you on suspicion of murder. Your own
wife. Im calling my team. You stay right there.

SOUND: POLICE SIRENS EMEERGING FROM BACKGROUND.

ADAM:
Please, please you dont understand. Ive been on prescribed
medication for months, it makes me act out, I never meant for any of
this! Please!

BACKUP ARRIVES. CLOSE-UP ADAMS FACE. Tears are rolling down his
face as he is escorted out to the police car. He takes one last look
at Selma.
