We selected Carrie Chapman Catt because during our research to find a topic, we

stumbled onto information about the female suffrage area. Because it is an important civil right,

we knew we wanted our topic to relate back to this subject. We dug a little deeper and found

Catt, a person important to womens voting rights, but someone who did not care for publicity.

There are very few people who know about her and we wanted to spread the word. Furthermore,

she is a female Iowan as are we. We relied on books, websites, databases, and interviews to give

us the information we needed to create a website on Carrie Chapman Catt. We reached out to

Dianne Bystrom, the director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics located

at Iowa State College. She was very impressed at our inquiries about Catt, she said we asked

some very unique questions. We found some information about her desire for the right to vote.

We chose to create a website because we are both considerably tech savvy, and we

wanted our project to be something that we excel at.We also wanted a clear and understandable

way for us to communicate with the judges. Before this project, we had never used Weebly to

create a website. We had prior experience with website creators, but none like Weebly. We had

no trouble finding images for the pages, but we did have problems finding the right pictures to

use as backgrounds.

Carrie Chapman Catt relates back to the theme in the greatest way possible, as she is

connected not only to the United States, but to the rest the world also. She brought people

together, and took a stand against a cruel and unjust government. She was not given the rights

that were given to men, sometimes even convicts. We feel that our project was one of the best

projects we have created all year long. It helped us with our research skills, and also our

interview skills. We had to comply with a lot of rules and regulations. In the end this National
History Day Project made it easier to work as a group for both of us. This project was difficult,

and we are very excited for the project to be shown. We are very proud to represent Carrie

Chapman Catt, a respected figure in the womens rights movement although she was not a huge

figure.
