ABSTRACT

Fingerprint recognition systems, radars, social networks, among other

services, are based on digital imaging algorithms.

These systems are composed by an image capture device, coupled with

an algorithm embedded in a system capable of processing the captured
information.

The focus of this TCC will be the construction of an algorithm based on

MATLAB, from a digital image of a vehicle captured by a camera, it will be
possible to determine the combination of characters that make up the vehicle
registration.

This algorithm will be based on a system called Optical Character

Recognition (OCR), this system was chosen because of the simplicity to build
an algorithm with these characteristics.

In this work, the developed algorithm will be presented, with the

respective theoretical basis, including the results obtained from the test in the
database Base de Imagens de Placas de Veculos Brasileiros, provided by
Brazilian Center of Physics Research - CBPF.
