Sierra de Guadarama Camino Schmid

How does the climate affect the Camino Schmid?

http://www.viajablog.com/ruta-circular-sierra-guadarrama-camino-
schmidt/

In this proyect we are going to talk about the climate in general of the Camino Schmid. We are
going to analize the changing climates and its characteristics. Also we will tell you when is the
best time to visit it. You will find all of this here with us.

We have chosen this question for answer our own curiosity and to know more about that
fantastic forest that we have visited. Also for know if there has happened any natural desaster.
We have devided the proyect in three secret questions and then join it. We have research in
internet and in newspapers. Also we have been comunicated every day for ask questions
between each other to see new information.

The Sierra de Guadarrama is located in an area where the climate is Mediterranean,

characterized by temperatures that vary greatly from summer to winter and having very dry. But
as in any mountainous area, the weather in this mountain range varies significantly with
altitude, so we must differentiate the different climatic zones.

Between 800 and 1400 meters above sea level, the average annual rainfall are between 700 and
800 mm, still quite scarce during the summer. The average temperature in this zone is between
10 and 11 is C, reaching a maximum in summer of 28 C and a minimum in winter -6 C. In
this area, the rainfall is usually in the form of snow between December and February, although
there are always exceptions, and snow remains on the ground for just over three days due to
temperatures.

Between 1400 and 2000 meters above sea level, the average annual rainfall are between 900 and
1000 mm, being more scarce during the summer and more abundant according to height. The
average temperature in this zone is between 8 and 9 C, reaching a maximum in summer 25 C
and a minimum in winter of -8 C. In this area, the rainfall is usually in the form of snow
between December and April.

Between 2000 and 2428 meters above sea level, the average annual rainfall are between 1200
and 2500 mm, being more scarce during the summer and more abundant as you get higher. The
average temperature in this zone is between 6 and 7 C, reaching a maximum in summer of 22
C and minimum in winter to -12 C. Rainfall usually as snow between November and May
and the snow stays on the ground all winter and much of the spring.

In conclusion, the climate of the Sierra de Guadarrama is quite humid, rather more than the
Central Plateau and usually colder, the higher the altitude.

It has this climet due to a low amount of rainfall during the summer. Due to the lack of rain the
forests of the camino schmid have a high risk of ignighting and causing a fire. In August 1999
on Mount Abantos a fire started and because that an important rea of the forest was destroyed.

The best months to go to the Camino Schmidt is in spring, around June or May, because its not
too hot, (the average temperature is 9,2C) and theres a high percentage of humidity (71%).
Also, theres not too much snow around those days and theres low precipitation and a good
amount of humidity so there will be a lot of animals and the flora should be in its best state.

Another major environmental problem facing is the great urban growth that occurs in many
reas of the Community of Madrid. There were many controversies in the first decade of the
century by speculation urbansticaen cases where housing developments in areas rezoned, in
spaces that were previously protected are built. The creation of the National Park of
Guadarrama help slow the progress of cities in the Sierra de Guadarrama.

In conclusin, in this Project we have learned how to work with different students and how to
organized us. We have learned more abuot Sierra de Guadarama and when we can go with our
families. This will help us in the future with next projects and how to do the bibliography.
