Interview Translation

When/Where were you born?

- My name is Francisco Fierro Roque im thirty six years old im from a town called
San Bartolo in the state of Mexico, Mexico. I was born March 2nd 1981.

Who are your parents? What type of people are they?

- My dads name is Francisco Fierro Colorado and my moms name Concepcion


Roque Gomez.They are very hard working so that my siblings and I are able to get
ahead in life. They are the type of people that work hard to succeed for there family.

What was your dream as a child?

- My dream as a child was to build a big castle for when I got married.

What are some of your childhood memories?

- Some of my memories were to play marbles with my friends. Play at school and
go to school. I liked to play with little cars. But the most was when we made corn and
when we would eat stocks (sugar canes) and when my parents would take us out
around on day trips.

Did you have any nicknames?

- Oooh when I was I had like five nicknames. One was white boy, eyebrows,priest,
and thats all I think I had.

Why did you chose to come to america?

- My brother was invited to go to the United States and he decided he didnt want
to go. So I decide to come and here I am. Ive been here for 17 years, everythings good
and I am living good.

Was it hard leaving your family?

- It is really difficult leaving your mom your parents and your brothers and sisters
and everyone. Its difficult and even more difficult when . You have to leave your
country, the town you grew up in. Difficult leaving your friends, your grandparents
everything.

How long did it take you to get here?


- When I left my house and came to the border it took two days, I was in agua
prieta. We wanted to cross and it took like fifteen days to cross and come back and
cross and come back and cross and come back again, until we finally passed.

What was the scariest part about the entire journey?

Lo worst part was when we were walking through the desert and I had a gun put to my head.
The other parts are just thinking about if people are going to rob you or kill you. Getting caught
and having to go back to Mexico and try to come back again.

What was the first thing you did when you got here?

- When I first got here I felt relieved and then I called my mom and my family
because they were worried. So I let them know I had made it safely.

What do you think about the immigration process?


- Americans think its easy to come here and they dont understand that the politics
in Mexico are very different than here in the US. it is not possible to get a visa and
hopefully in the future they can make it possible to do the paperwork in Mexico. The
other thing is Americans should not think that we, Latinos, Im referring to people from
Guatemala, Honduras all latinos we are coming here to take their jobs. We are coming
here to do the jobs that they do not want to do.
