Solas News
Update on Preaching Conference. Solas hosted the first Dundee Preaching
Conference on the 5th and 12th of June. Speakers were Edward Lobb of
Cornhill Scotland and Neil MacMillan the Mission Development Officer for
the Free Church of Scotland. Speaking on “Preaching...why bother?”
Edward took us through some reasons for preaching from Paul's second
letter to Timothy and then also looked at why expository preaching is a
necessity for a healthy teaching ministry. The first day came to a close with a
wonderful exposition of John 15:18 - 16:4.
Neil MacMillan was our guide on day two of the conference looking
at the topic of “Preaching... where do I begin?” Neil guided us through some
of the considerations needed when teaching on a text of scripture. Then he Solas Conferences:
gave some helpful tips on actually writing a Bible talk, going from text to

lectures, David Robertson gave a talk entitled “McCheyne, McGonagall and the West End of Dundee” sharing the
