Slide the ON-OFF Switch to “OFF” position. 2. Slide the Battery Compartment Cover outwards. 3. Load 4 “AA” size batteries into the compartment according to the polarity diagram, and close the Cover. 4. Flip the ON-OFF Switch to ON position, a humming sound will be heard, this is normal. 5. The Ready Lamp will turn on in a few seconds. The unit is now ready to flash. 6. Press the Test Button. The flash will fire. This should be done twice in succession if the flash has not been used for a few days. 7. When the batteries are weak, the time for the Ready Lamp to turn on will be longer. If the Ready Lamp fails to turn on after 30 seconds, replace all the batteries, B. MOUNTING ON CAMERA |. Camera with “Hot Shoe” 1. The flash unit has a ‘Hot Shoe’ base and can be attached directly to a camera ‘Hot Shoe’ socket. 2. The ‘Hot Shoe’ of the flash unit is equipped with a locking ring. Rotate the locking ring upwards. Push the unit onto the ‘Hot Shoe’ socket of the camera. 3. Rotate the ring downwards to lock the flash securely to the camera. This will hold the flash unit firmly in place and provide the electrical connection between camera and flash. ll. Camera without “Hot Shoe” 1. If the camera does not have a ‘‘Hot Shoe” socket, use the Synchro Cord for the electrical connection. 2. Plug the pointed end of the Synchro Cord into the Synchro Cord socket of the flash unit. 3. Insert the other end of the cord into the camera's flash terminal maked “X"’. C, AUTOMATIC OPERATION The flash unit is equipped with a built-in automatic sensor circuit to adjust the subject illumination for a perfect exposure. The practical advantage is that you do not have to change the f-stop on your camera lens within the effective flash range. The flash also has 2 different f-stops for different aperture settings on your camera lens. The different f-stop is assigned by a color: RED: Utilizes a wider lens opening for relatively shallow depth of field, and provides greater automatic operating range. BLUE: Utilizes a smaller lens opening for greater depth of field. Operation: 1. Align the triangular mark to the film speed as shown on the Exposure Calculator. 2. You will find the 2 different f-stops and the flash range under the color mark. 3. Determine the f-stop for your photograph. Set the Mode Selector Knob to the red or blue position. 4. Adjust the aperture of the camera according to the f-stop shown on the color mark of the Ex- posure Calculator. 5. Within the effective flash range, the aperture of your camera need not be readjusted. 6. For Example, when the film speed is ASA 100 (DIN 21):- RED: (f/2.8) Automatic operating range 1-9m (3-30ft) BLUE: (f/5.6) Automatic operating range 1-4.5m (3-15ft) NOTE: on some cameras the built-in automatic flash control cannot be turned off. In this case, turn the Mode Selector of the unit to Manual position (white) and use automatic flash control of camera. D. SHOOTING MANUALLY When you are taking picture without automatic operation or beyond the automatic flash range, set the Mode Selector of the flash to Manual Position (white). Align the trianglar mark to the film speed as shown on the Exposure Calculator. 3. Focus your camera and estimate the flash to sub- NOTE: ject distance. Find the flash to subject distance on the distance scale of the Exposure Calculator and set the camera lens to the f-stop indicated against that distance. When photographing outdoors or in a large room or hall where there are no effective reflecting surfaces nearby, it is necessary to set the camera lens at a wider aperture than is indicated on the Exposure Calculator (1 or 2 f-stops). E. SUFFICIENT LIGHT CHECKING The Sufficient Light Indicator lets you know before you take a picture if the light output will be sufficent for a good exposure, and is especially helpful in bounce light situations. 1. Position your camera, flash unit, and the subject just as you wish for a final picture. 2. Set your camera lens aperture according to the desired Mode Selector position of the flash. 3. Switch on the flash unit, after the Ready Lamp glows, fire the flash by pushing the Test Button. 4. If the flash exposure is adequate, the green Sufficient Light Indicator will glow on immediately after firing the flash, then you can take a picture. NOTE: 1. The Sufficient Light Indicator is for use in any position of the Automatic Mode. The green lamp will not light if the Mode Selector is set at manual (white) position. F. BOUNCE FLASH Instead of using a direct light of the flash, the flash head of the unit can be swiveled 90° Vertically and 330° horizontally for a desired shooting angle. The Bounce Flash provides not only softer and pleasing light but also improved saturation in colour work. Note : 1. The Bounce Flash functions with any one of the automatic mode. 2. Before taking picture, use the sufficient light indicator to check whether the illumination of the subject is adequate or not. If the green lamp does not glow after firing a test flash, you should make adjustment that allow more light to reach the subject. 3. If you are taking picture in manual mode, set your camera lens aperture 1 or 2 F-Stop wider than indicated on the Exposure Calculator. 9 ZOOM LENS POSITION SETTING The Zoom Lens have Four Positions to fit different lenses using in your camera. ZOOM LENS TAKING LENS EFFECTIVE POSITION FOCAL FLASH RANGE LENGTH (ASA100,f/2orf/2.8) 1. “W" (Wide angle) 28~ 40mm 25 ft. 2. ‘‘N" (Normal) 45~ 60mm 30 ft. 3. “T" (Telephoto) 70~ 90mm 40 ft. 4, 'T" (Telephoto) 100~135 mm 50 ft. CAUTIONS IN HANDLING 1. When the unit is not in use, always set the ON-OFF Switch at the “OFF” position. Remove the batteries from the unit when not in use for a long period of time. Do not open or attempt to repair the flash unit. It con- tains high voltage circuitry and should be serviced only by properly trained personnel.
