Let's Live It Up eee from The Dirty Boogie Words and Music by Brian Setzer Copyeg © 1998 Sctzersongs (BMI International Copyright Seared. ll Rights Reered Intro Setzer begins with a spinning and swirling lick that incorporates fretted notes in the middle of the neck combined with an open G. The rhythm of the phrase, though comprised entirely of eighth notes, fol- lows the accented pattern of the Bo Diddley beat (or the “three” part of the clave pattern, if you prefer): | 4 2.4.4 || the second half of the Intro shows the horn's melodic line (in the top staff) and Setzer’s chordal underpinnings in the bottom staff. Again, as in “The Dirty Boogie,” rhythmic unison is the name of the game. His chords are the typical, lean-and-clean jazz guitar voicings all aspiring swingers and beboppers learn. Though Setzer rocks out from time to time here, he is usually playing right off the changes. One of the best licks here is the open- ing sequence, which alternates between notes from Bb (Bb, D, F) and F7b9#11 (F, A, C, E>, Gb, B) every two beats. The rootless voicings used at the end of Setzer’s Chorus segue to his comping for the sax Solo, beginning in bar 13. eer Full Band Slow Demo Fast Rockabilly Sing J= 184(J=d 2) New “a 4 NN no Cease pd by ge & bas lend SSO Bh Fo Bb Filo Bh Dir a Di con " Sax solo ts Bini Be pos Bit pick fingers lerrng~ » re Br ans abs ons cm FS Heaps WL.
