Amendment to Supervision Training Unit (STU) Requirement (8 STU)

Q1. What are the procedures for the application of STU (safety) and who can apply to the Joint
Accreditation Committee (JAC)?

Ans. Only training providers can apply for STU (safety) from JAC before the commencement of
training. The training provider must seek approval from Safety Development Unit (SDU) on
their own accord and proof of approval is required for submission of application for STU
(safety) to the JAC, and the decision by JAC will be final.

Q2. What is the effective calendar year for the STU requirement increase to 8 STU for the
renewal of accreditation by RE/RTOs and what is the breakdown of the 8 STU requirements?

Ans. The effective calendar year for the 8 STU requirements for the renewal of accreditation by
RE/RTOs is from year 2016 and onwards. The breakdown of the 8 STU requirements will
comprise of 6 STU (structural) for training relevant to supervision of structural works in
construction and 2 STU (safety) for training relevant to safety aspects.

Q3. How do I use STUs in excess for my accreditation renewal?

Ans. Training attained in the past 12 months can be used for your current accreditation renewal,
i.e. any unused STU (structural) is capped at 6 units and should be used for your immediate
next accreditation renewal.

Training attained in the past 12 months can be used for your current accreditation renewal,
i.e. any unused STU (safety) is capped at 2 units and should be used for your immediate next
accreditation renewal.

Q4. What if I have attended training related to safety before approval had been granted by Joint
Accreditation Committee for STU (safety)? Can I use this training as equivalent to STU
(safety)?

Ans. No. You cannot use training related to safety before approval had been granted by Joint
Accreditation Committee for STU (safety). Hence, this training is not equivalent to STU
(safety).
