Instruction: Answer ALL Questions KKKH2264 1. Table 1 is an experimental result of a sieve analysis on fine aggregates which has not been calculated except the weight of the fine aggregates retained on each sieve and the pan. Table 2 shows proportions of the fine aggregates which yet to calculate for four different concrete mix designs. Figure 1 shows relationships between proportions of fine aggregates with water-cement ratios for different maximum sizes of aggregates according the design method of Department of Environment, United Kingdom. ‘Table 1: Experimental results of sieve analysis of fine aggregates Sieve Sizes | Weigh of Percentage | Cumulative | Cumulative aggregate retained | retained percentage —_| percentage (2) passing retained 10mm 0 5.0 mm 6 _— 236mm 31 1.18 mm 30 — 600 jum 39 300 um 107 150 pm 33 <150 um 21 Table 2: Proportion of fine aggregates for four concrete mix designs Concrete | Max size of | Slump | Water- | Percentage of the | Percentage of the Mix aggregates | (mm) | cement | aggregates passed | fine aggregates Design | (mm) ratios | sieve sizes 600 from the total (wie) | um (from Table 1) | aggregates (from Figure 1) 1 10 0-10 04 2 20 10-30 05 3 40 30-60 0.6 4 40 60-180 | 0.7 - - LC i KKKH2264 Proportion of fine aggregate size-percent KKKH2264 water ‘coment rato (o) Max aggregate size - 40mm Figure 1: Proportion of fine aggregates (in percentages) against water-cement ratios for different values of slump and aggregates maximum sizes (The numbers in the graphs are refered to the percentages of the fine aggregates passed the 600 jim sieve). a) Copy Table 1 and complete the empty columns as they should be calculated. (8 marks) b) Calculate the finess modulus of the fine aggregates. (5 marks) c) Copy Table 2 and by using data from (a) and Figure 1, complete the columns in Table 2, Show on the graphs how you obtain the fine aggregate percentages.
