A BILL
1 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

2 tives of the United States of America in Congress Assembled,

3 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

4 This Act may be cited as the Year-Long Schooling Act.

5 SEC. 2. FINDINGS.

6 Congress finds the following:

7 (1) For every school district in these United States of

8 America, there shall be at least one of each trad-

9 itionally scheduled school and year-long sched-

10 uled school for each elementary, junior, and

11 high school in the district.

12 (2) Each student and family will have the choice of

13 either a traditionally scheduled school or a year-

14 long scheduled school.

15 SEC. 3. PURPOSE.

16 The purpose of this Act is to allow students the option

17 of studying in either a year-long or traditionally scheduled

18 school for the duration of their primary and secondary edu-

19 cation.

20 SEC. 4. DEFINITION OF YEAR-LONG SCHOOL.

21 The definition of a year-long school will be as follows:


22 (a) the first day students attend classes will be

23 during the months of July and August.

24 (b) the schedule will roughly be either:

25 (1) 60 days of school followed by four weeks

26 of break or

27 (2) 45 days of school followed by three weeks

28 of break.

29 (c) national holidays shall continue to be non-

30 instructional days and shall not necessarily be

31 indicators of break schedules.

32 SEC. 5. EFFECTIVE DATE.

33 The Year-Long Schooling Act shall take effect for

34 fiscal year 2018.
