The first classification of contraband, nuisance contraband, is essentially any item that violates policy

in and of itself, but without posing a significant institutional risk. Modified personal electronic
equipment, stingers (to boil water), extra property (too many clothes, photos, etc.), gambling chips or
markers, and pornography would all be considered nuisance contraband at many prison facilities.

MISSION
The Bureau aims to enhance public safety by providing humane safekeeping and
development of inmates in all district, city and municipal jails.

VISION
The BJMP envisions itself as a dynamic institution highly regarded for its sustained humane
safekeeping and development of inmates.
