Lesson: Letter Transformation

Standard

21.K-2.ES.3: Learn leadership skills and demonstrate integrity, ethical behavior, and
social responsibility

Objective

1st grade students will be able to use and recognize leadership qualities and behaviors, in
order to create a letter of the alphabet, using their bodies.

Procedure

1. Have students come to the carpet, in order to explain directions.


2. Put students together into groups of 3.
3. Assign groups a letter: A, M, N, D, Z, K, R, and Y and tell them that they are
going to make their letters using their bodies.
4. Give the groups a few minutes to figure out how they are going o make their
letter.
5. Each group will come to the carpet to make their letter out of their bodies and
then the rest of the class will have to guess what letter that group was making.
6. After each group has gone, talk to the class about what they had to do in order to
complete the task
a. Could include things such as communication, respect, differing opinions,
and teamwork
7. Ask class, what leadership qualities did they have to use, in order to complete the
task.
a. Reference the leadership quality list we created.

Assessment

End of unit, formative assessment, to see if students have grasped the idea of the qualities
it takes to be a leader. Assess the students ability to make a letter as a team and identify
leadership qualities, through observation.
