Religious Diversity Reading Reaction
Religious diversity in our local school systems are becoming more common than they

ever have been before. In smaller school districts and communities, there arent many options for

religious diversity. Every person in the community was of the same faith and attended the same

churches every Sunday. Although smaller communities have less religious diversity, larger

communities and more urbanized areas have more diversity within their schools and

communities.
Within our schools in this day and age, diversity in our classrooms is becoming more

common and as teachers we need to be understanding and accepting of students and families in

our community that have different religious beliefs than us. More often than not, students who

have different religious beliefs than the norm in our communities often feel secluded or judged

for practicing their religion, and most schools dont understand that there are religions that

require prayer throughout the day or they arent able to do or talk about certain things that

involve their religions. As teachers, when we have a student of a different faith than us in our

classes, we need to make it our job to learn about these students and learn more about their

religion so we can become more knowledgeable and have a better understanding about their

cultures. Once we know more as teachers, we can help inform other students about this religion

too and be able to teach tolerance in your classroom. Teaching children at a younger age about

different religions and teaching them tolerance and acceptance will help create better

communities in the future.
