Emory, VA - I made a proposal for this research story that basically

stated that there were rarely any fun activities to participate in if you

are a regular student. By regular student, I refer to any individual who

is not apart of a sports team or Greek Life.

There are educational lyceums and art talks, but most students view

them as boring and uninteresting, according to EHC sophomore

Kaulil King.

Ive decided to research further into extra curricular activities that

Emory & Henry offers.

Emory & Henry College has an activity board thats called the EAB.

The EAB basically emails a list of campus activities that students and

faculty can get involved in throughout the year.

Upon research of the EAB, Ive found that they have a Facebook page

that lets their friends know of the upcoming events.

In the past month, Ive noticed that the EAB has been very active. On

February 11, 2017 Country music singer Austin Moody played a concert

in the fairly new McGlothlin Center for the Arts.

Days later on Saturday, February 18, 2017, the EAB allowed students

to used the Martin Brock Gym as their own personal battlefield as they

hosted their first ever laser tag tournament. This event was held from

8pm to midnight.

Last Thursday, the EAB orchestrated a free showing of the new

blockbuster reel Logan at the cinemas in Abingdon, VA.

From this research, Ive learned that there isnt a lack of activities to do

on campus; I have to actually search for activities to engage in.

With that being said, however, the EAB could improve on how they

advertise these rising events. I dont think that the EAB should only be

advertised within The Scoop emails or on Facebook because most

students dont read The Scoop and not everyone has befriended them

on Facebook.

By sending out individual, more appealing emails advertising all of

these exciting events, more individuals will notice these activities and

participate because they would be more aware and willing depending

on what the activity is.

I was not aware of everything that Emory & Henry offered activity wise,

but thanks to my research, I can engage in the EHC community that

much more.
