PURPOSE:
To reduce by three-quarters the maternal mortality ratio and achieve universal
access to reproductive healthcare.
Success is measured by maternal mortality ratio
the proportion of births attended by skilled health workers
contraceptive prevalence rates
unmet needs for family planning
adolescent birth rates and antenatal care coverage
THE PROBLEM:
Women died from complications in
childbirth every minute.
Women in Africa have a 1 in 16
chance of dying in pregnancy or
childbirth.
51% of countries have data
THE PROBLEM:
In country side only 56% are
attended by skilled health
personnel.
Only half of pregnant women in the
developing regions receive
essential care.

PROGRESS:
Maternal mortality has declined by nearly half since
1990.
Births attended by skilled health personnal have
increased.
Poorest countries gained access to essential health
services
PROGRESS:
Burundi: 25% more women gave birth at health facilities in 2011 than in 2010

Guinea: 95% of pregnant women in 2012 received prenatal care from a

health care provider

Lao PDR: between 1997, 2006,93,000 women received subsidies for prenatal

care and hospital delivery, and 536,000 women received free

71% of births were assisted by skilled health personnel globally in 2014
