ST 2 Bikash Regmi Bikash Regmi earned his nomination as a student star alongside his wife and “motiva- tor, encourager, supporter, and rescuer,” Kumari Regmi. Force to leave Bhutan at age 6, he emigrated from a refugee camp in Nepal in 2009. Because of the atrocities he witnessed while living in that camp, he promised himself he would one day become a healthcare provider. With aspirations to become a nurse practitioner, Bikash took classes at LeMoyne College and graduated St. Elizabeth College of Nursing with an associate degree in 2014. He was honored for his academic excellence through the Clinical Excellency Award. He is also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. Bikash currently attends SUNY Polytechnic Institute Graduate School studying to become a family nurse practitioner. His undergraduate GPA is 3.93. Among his volunteer experiences, Bikash worked as an interpreter for Catho- lic Charities, translating mail and organizing public assistance. While working there, Bikash met his current wife Kumari. He also has prepared ESL classes, and is an active leader in the Bhutanese Community. He and Kumari orga- nized the Red Cross/Bhutanese Community of Syracuse Blood drive, and he also organized a breast cancer awareness program. Additionally, he serves on the advisory board for the Proctor Art Institute in Utica. He is also the student representative for the Nursing Department Curriculum Committee at SUNYPoly. Bikash thanks all of the On Point staff for supporting him in all of his endeav- ors, helping him fill out a degree evaluation from Nepal, finding ways to pay for tuition while preparing for their new baby girl. He specifically thanks Kevin Marken, Ushona McLean, and Tiffany C, Rush, for their continued support He notes that he and Kumari are perfect illustrations for the amazing work that On Point does, “helping students break barners through advisement, financial aid, transportation, college visits, and more. “ His favorite quote is “The root of education is bitter, but the fruits are sweet.”
