Think about it, when you are 2, 3 years old and you say a word wrong over and
over no one corrects you. If you say it wrong enough times, instead of
correcting you, your parents learn your way and they start saying it wrong too.
The coolest part of that is you remain free with how you talk.

And so you never have to follow the musical rule of learning all these years and
then going and finding your voice. With your speaking voice you never lost it.
No one ever robbed you of that. And so because when I was young, that is how
I was learning. I was learning English and music at the same time and in the
same way.

So I tell this to people. I usually say yeah, I started when I was 2 or 3", and I
say that just because that is more believable. But, when did you start speaking
English? Did you wait until you were 2 or 3? No. You were speaking, Id
probably say before birth. Whenever you could hear was when you probably
started learning it.

To me, that is very very cool, and very very clever of my brothers who are, my
oldest brother out of the 5, I am the youngest, Reggie is the oldest, he is only
8 years older than me, so how he was this smart, I dont know. That is the real
question. That should be the real Ted Talk. Is how he figured out the ingenious
way of not teaching us younger brothers how to play. They didnt start me by
putting a bass in my hands, no.

The first thing they did was play music around me. From my earliest ages that I
can remember, I can remember living in Hawaii and my brothers would set up,
and I can remember seeing a plastic stool. A lot of times we would set up in the
front yard but I can see a plastic stool with a little plastic toy, Mickey Mouse
wind up guitar laying on top of that stool. No one had to tell me that that was
for me.

Pense nisso, quando voc tem 2, 3 anos de idade e voc diz uma palavra errado
vrias vezes ningum corrige voc. Se voc diz isso (a palavra) errado um
nmero suficiente de vezes, em vez de corrigir voc, os seus pais aprendem o
seu jeito e eles comeam a falar isso (a palavra) errado tambm. A parte mais
legal disso que voc permanece livre com a maneira que voc fala.

E ento voc nunca tem que seguir a regra musical de aprender todos esses
anos e ento ir e encontrar sua voz. Com sua voz de falar voc jamais perdeu
ela. Ningum jamais roubou voc disso e ento porque quando eu era jovem,
isso como eu estava aprendendo. Eu estava aprendendo ingls e msica ao
mesmo tempo e da mesma maneira.

Ento eu digo isso para as pessoas. Eu normalmente falo sim, eu comecei

quanto eu tinha 2 ou 3, e eu digo isso simplesmente porque isso mais
acreditvel. Mas, quando voc comeou a falar ingls? Voc esperou at voc
ter 2 ou 3? No. Voc estava falando, eu provavelmente diria antes do
nascimento. Quando voc conseguiu ouvir foi quando voc provavelmente
comeou a aprender a falar ingls.

Para mim, isso muito, muito legal, e muito muito esperto por parte de meus
irmos que so, meu irmo mais velho entre os 5, eu sou o mais novo, Reggie
o mais velho, ele somente 8 anos mais velho do que eu, ento como ele foi
to esperto, eu no sei. Essa a pergunta verdadeira. Essa deveria ser
Apresentao do Ted verdadeira. como ele descobriu a maneira engenhosa de
no ensinar ns irmos mais novos como tocar. Eles no me fizeram comear
colocando um baixo em minhas mos, no.

A primeira coisa que eles fizeram foi tocar msica ao meu redor. Desde os
primeiros anos que eu consigo lembrar. Eu consigo me lembrar que vivia no
Hava, e meus irmos se preparavam, e eu consigo me lembrar de ver um
banquinho de plstico. Muitas vezes ns nos preparvamos na jardim da
frente mas eu consigo ver um banquinho de plstico com um pequeno
brinquedo de plstico, um violo de corda do Mickey repousando no topo
daquele banquinho. Ningum teve que me dizer que aquilo era para mim.
