Graphical Representation of Welded,
Soldered and Brazed Joints
Concepts and Terms for Soidered and Brazed Joints and Seams
Zeichnorische Darstellung Schweissen, Loten; Bogriffe und Benennungen fur LétstOsse und Lotnahte
This Standard has been prepared in cooperation with the Deutscher Verband fir Schweisstechnik (DVS) (German
Welding Association).
1 General
For soldering and brazing the concepts of DIN 8505 Part 1 and Part 2 apply additionally.
2 Soldered and brazed parts
Parts to be soldered and brazed are united at the joint by seams to forma soldered or brazed com
ponent.A soldered or brazed assembly results from the soldering or brazing of components
(according to DIN 8506 Part 1). The finished item may consist of a single soldered or brazed component or of
fone or more soldered or brazed assemblies.
3. Soldered or brazed joint
‘The soldered or brazed joint characterizes through its type and shape the area in which the parts are united by solder-
ing or brazing (according to DIN 8505 Part 1).
3.1. Type of soldered or brazed joint
‘The type of soldered or brazed joint is determined by the arrangement of the parts (see Table 1),

3.2 Form of soldered or brazed joint
3.2.1 Close joint
A close joint is @ natrow, mainly parallel, gap exis
between the parts to be soldered or brazed and which is filled,
Principally by capillary pressure, with solder or brazing alloy (according to DIN 8505 Part 1). (For examples see Fig. 1

4. Soldered or brazed seam
‘The seam unites the parts at the soldered or brazed joint. It is determined nat only by the type and form of the joint, but
also by the soldering or brazing process and by the parent and filler metals used (according to DIN 8505 Part 1). (For
‘examples see Fig. 5 to Fig. 8)
