There will not be 2 lot of questions requiring you to use these formulas, but it will be helpful tobe able to apply these at a moment notice. Ifyou are not comfortable with math, you should be happy to hear that you can know none ofthese formulas and stil pas the exam! You can avoid that mistake, Read the following tips slowly and honestly assess how each item applies to you. ‘+ Know the material thoroughly, but donot approach the exam assuming it tests the memorization of facts. The exam tests knowledge, application, nd analysis! You must understand how to use the concepts and processes in the real world, and how they work in combination with each other in the context ofa large project. ‘+ Have real-world experience using ll the major project management tools and techniques. If you ddo not have this experience now, try to gti. I you cannot get this experience before you take the exam, make sure you can visualize how the tools and processes would be used on real projects. This visualization will help you se the potential challenges of using project management tools and techniques inthe real world and help you prepare forthe situational questions on the exam, ‘+ As noted throughout this book, make sure you are thinking in terms of large projects when studying for and taking the actual exam, Tis will help you remember the importance of processes, tools, and techniques that you may not use in your real-world projet management, ‘+ Read the PMBOK* Guide, ‘Understand the areas PMI emphasizes (PMI-isms,explsined in chapter | and throughout this book}, * Be familar with the types of questions you can expect on the exam, a explained in chapter 1, but do not be alarmed ifyou see new types of questions on the exam. ‘Be prepared to see ambiguous and wordy questions on the exam that might be multiple paragraphs long, Practice interpreting these types of questions. ‘+ Ifyou have PM FASTrack*, practic picking an answer from what appears to be two, three, or even four “right” answers ‘Decide in advance what notes you will write down when you are given scratch paper at the actual exam. You can use it as “download sheet” for formulas or gapsin your project management knowledge. Practice creating this download sheet before taking the exam, (See the next section for ‘more information.) ‘+ Deal with your stress BEFORE you take the exam. In addition, if you are a nervous tes taker, using PM FASTrack*can give you an opportunity to practice stress control during the exam simulation. + Planand use your strategy for taking the exam. This may mean, “Twill take a 10-minute break ater every 50 questions because I gt tired quickly” or “Iwill answer all the questions as quickly as possible and then take a break and review my answers” + Expect that there willbe questions you cannot answer or even understand. This happens to everyone. Be prepared so you do not get annoyed o, worse yet, doubt your lites during the exam. + Visitthe exam site before your exam date to determine how long it wil take to get there and to see what the testing room looks like.
