STRESS- CONCENTRATION FACTORS Stress-concentration factors for 14 common cases are presented in this appendix. as listed below. All curves are taken from R. E. Peterson, “Design Factors for Stress Concen- tration, Parts 1 to 5, * Machine Design, February-July, 1951, Penton Publishing, Cleve. land, Ohio. with permission. Approximate equations for these curves have been fitted and are defined in each figure. These equations have been encoded as computerized functions (noted below) that can be incorporated in computer models to allow automatic ‘generation of approximate stress-concentration factors during calculations.
