Unit Topic: Life Cycle
Time Frame: 45 minutes
Text: Frogs by Jeunesse Gallimardd
Other Materials: Writing prompt, document camera

II. Essential Understanding/Questions :


How does an organism succeed in its envrionment?
What does it mean to be alive?
How do organisms change as they go through their life cycle?
Students will understand all living things have a life cycle.
Living things change throughout their lifetime.

III. Standards/Indicators
3.C.1.a ~ Idenitfy and show pictures of what an animal and a plant looks like at
each stage of its life cycle
RI4 ~ Ask and answer questions about unfamiliar words
W2 ~ Gather and communicate information related to the topic/text.

IV. Lesson Objectives


Students will use a writing prompt to identify the frog in the life cycle. They will
gather information and communicate that information through their writing
prompt.

V. Evaluation/Assessment:
Assessment of Objectives
Students will be informally observed during the lesson (this is ongoing).
Students who answer questions will contribute their questions and/or
answers to our EQ poster (this is ongoing).
Life Cycle of a Frog writing prompt will be collected and used as a grade.

VI. Procedures:
Introduction
We will revisit and discuss the EQ. We will add the new EQ to our poster.
Teaching/Activities
Students will listen to the read aloud. We will stop and contribute
unknown words to our word bank. We will draw diagrams and identify the
meaning of unknown words.
Students will use their writing prompt independently.
Closure
After students are finsihed with their seat work, we will revisit our EQ.
Students will share their writing prompts on the document camera.
