Electromagnetic Spectrum
1. Definition :
Range of wavelengths or frequencies over which electromagnetic radiation
extends. To put it in simpler words, electromagnetic spectrum is the range of
all types of electromagnetic radiation and radiation is the energy that travels
and spreads out as it goes.

3. List of all the bands and application

i. Radio :
Transmission of data. Captures radio waves emitted by radio
stations. Also used in television, phones and wireless networking.

ii. Microwaves :
Microwaves oven. Cooks food by the radiation produced.

iii. Infra-red :
Night vision goggles pick up the infrared light emitted by our skin
and objects with heat. In space, infrared light helps us map the dust
between stars.

iv. Visible light :


Our eyes can detect only a tiny part of the electromagnetic
spectrum, called visible light. With visible lights, we can see the
lights that lights up the room when we are studying. Used in
lightbulbs and other appliances that emits light. Even the sun is a
great example on visible light.

v. Ultra violet :
Sterilizations. Medical equipment such as scalpel, scissors and
thermometer and sterilize after used so that the virus or germs or
bacteria will die and does not infect other patients.

vi. X-rays :
Commonly used in hospitals to produce photographs of bones
which can be checked for breaks or fractures. In airport, it is used
to gives a rough image on what is inside the luggage for security
inspection.

vii. Gamma rays :


Used in medicine to kill cancer cells.
