Titanic. A movie that could make anyone with a heart shed a tear. This movie was based
off a true historical event that happened in the year 1912. The background to this tragedy starts
off in Southampton, England. The titanic, at the time, was known to be the biggest cruise ship
ever built. It was getting ready to set sail across the Atlantic Ocean and end its voyage in New
York City. The ship was to leave on April 10, 1912 but would soon have a tragic end five days
later. On the night of April 15, 1912 the famous cruise ship had hit an iceberg causing the ship to
begin sinking and put everyone in panic mode. As the ship began to sink into the Atlantic there
were only so many safety boats; causing most of the passengers and crew members to sink with
the ship. This horrific event gave the director James Cameron a chance to create a retelling of the
The movie starts off present day with a fortune hunter going down with his crew to find
lost treasures within the Titanic. As the movie progresses he later meets a known survivor Rose
DeWitt Bukater; he asks her questions about her experience on the Titanic. She starts to tell her
tragic love story and the movie begins its flashback. She came from a very wealthy family and
Jack Dawson, her love interest, came from a difficult family life. When she first boarded she was
to be married to another wealthy man set up by her strict mother. One night when her life became
to overwhelming she went to one end of the boat and was tempted to throw herself into the
Atlantic Ocean. As she was almost going to go through with this action a young man catches her
and begins to talk her out of it. As she began to come back on the ship the two introduce
themselves her as Rose and him as Jack. The storyline continues and Rose begins to fall in love
with Jack and him with her, but their love is forbidden due to their social statuses.
The night the ship hit the iceberg the camera shows heartbreaking scenes of mothers
tucking in their children, couples saying their last goodbyes, and others throwing themselves into
the ocean. The safety boats that were present that day only let the rich on, leaving more than half
the passengers to die in the ocean. As Rose and Jack make it to the boats Jack knows he cannot
board, so he thinks of another plan to survive. A piece of a door was in the ocean which he
makes Rose climb on leaving no room for him. He floats next to her the whole night, leaving him
to die from the freezing water of the Atlantic. As she awakes she knows he is gone and begins to
cry in agony. As the morning passed the rescue ships began to sail in helping the survivors. The
storyline flashes back to present day and shows the expressions of the listeners of the tale. The
night after the retelling of Roses experience on the Titanic she passes in her sleep and the final
