1 Introduction
This document describes various possible areas where test cases can be used in order
to test and tune a TD LTE technology network. The intention is not to provide a
complete guide with all aspects and scenarios for optimizing TD LTE, but rather to give
some initial guidelines on how to start testing and tuning a TD LTE network.

2 TD LTE Test Case Areas

This chapter describes briefly a number of possible areas where test cases can be
applied, as well as the types of tests and where to find the corresponding information.

2.1 Radio Interface

Transmission modes according to expected plans; TM 2-3-4 is most likely the modes
in use verify. [Where: Information Elements]
Rank (RI); correlation to number of transport blocks (RI=1 => n:o of blocks=1, RI=2 =>
n:o of blocks=2). [Where: Information Elements]
Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS); verify that different schemes are actually
used, on both UL and DL. [Where: Information Elements]
Power Control; UE TX Power => UL/DL balance, path loss. [Where: Information
Elements]. SRS => activation/deactivation. [Where: L3, Mode Reports].
Mobility; Check RSRP thresholds in system information, events A1-A5 and B1-B2.
[Where: L3].
Link Budget; Path loss. [Where: Information Elements (Serving Cell Total RS Power)].
Timing Advance; [Where: Mode Reports].
Scheduling; Methods. [Where: Mode Reports].
Cyclic Prefix; DL [Where: L3 ] and UL [Where: Information Elements].
Downlink HARQ method; Ack/Nack, Bundling or Multiplexing. [Where: Information
Elements and L3].

2.2 RACH
Check max preambles [Where: Information Elements] and preamble format [Where:
L3].

2.3 Paging
Check L3 messages.

2.4 Coverage
Signal strength. [Where: Information Elements].

4 NT11-19727, 2.0,10/12/2011
2.5 Handovers
Interruption times. [Where: Information Elements (MAC PDU Handover Interruption
Time)].
Verify Tracking Area updates. [Where: L3].
Handovers on X2 and S1.

2.6 TDD Configuration Check

DL/UL subframe configuration. [Where: Information Elements].
Special subframe configuration. [Where: Information Elements].

Physical cell ID => avoid colliding RS on same site. [Where: Information Elements,
post processing].

2.7 Performance
Max throughput, depends on TDD UL/DL configuration and system BW. [Where:
Information Elements].
UL and DL services.

2.8 Latency
Use Ping. [Where: Information Elements and services].

2.9 Services
Services to be tested:
FTP
HTTP
e-mail
Ping
UDP
Video streaming
VoIP

2.10 IRAT Testing

Thresholds (system information). [Where: L3].
Overlapping coverage (for CSFB). [Where: Information Elements].
Signal strength. [Where: Information Elements].

2.11 Attach
Check L3 messages.

NT11-19727, 2.0, 10/12/2011 5

2.12 RLC
RLC acknowledge and un-acknowledge mode. [Where: Information Elements and
services].

2.13 KPIs
For a description of available KPIs, see TEMS Investigation Help, volume Technical
Reference. For detailed technical definitions of all KPIs, see separate documents found
on the installation CD in the subdirectory Documents.
