Kahoot!
Description
Kahoot! is a free game-based learning platform that can be used for any age and subject area.
Teachers can create multiple choice questions and include diagrams, pictures, and videos.
There are unlimited ways to use this tool. Teachers can incorporate this learning tool as a
review for any form of assessment, tutoring, book/passage reviews, gauging concluding student
learning skills or prior knowledge before beginning a lesson, as well as during a lesson to
determine the progression in meeting specific learning targets. Each created game can be used
repeatedly, allowing teachers to use this in small group settings or stations. The small group use
provides the teacher with the ability to create different game sessions to meet the needs of
various student capabilities. Students are able to use their own electronic devices with web
capabilities or school computers, laptops, and tablets.
Objectives/Intended Audience
2nd Grade
Student understanding and development of skills intended for current material. This would be
used in both small group and whole group to determine learning outcomes, possibly in different
subject areas to demonstrate the ease of use in all subject areas.
Outline of Activities
Spelling/Vocabulary- review for students to choose the word spelled correctly. Short (5 word)
daily games.
Reading- Comprehension of Read-Aloud stories and passages to monitor if students
understand the main idea, recall specific events, understand the mood of text, meaning of
words, characters, and anticipate future events based on the text/events.
Math- practice problems, vocabulary.
Science- Vocabulary
Social Studies- review methods based on the weekly objectives.
I would probably not use this for science or social studies based on current material,
although I could do this as a What Do You Know activity to understand each students
prior knowledge. This would also vary from small group/station to whole group use.
