How does your media product represent particular social groups to your

audience?

Social Group: C1-E Middle-class female

During this stage of my evaluation I will be comparing the similarities and

differences that my character has with other real media products, such as
established films.

Overview

A young student by the name of Sara Thompson illustrated as an innocent

protagonist is having the most difficult time of her life, her end of year exams.
She should have revised earlier but kept on avoiding her revision so she could
visit her friends and party. In school she is in a classroom struggling to revise for
her exams which is just around the corner. She left her revision to the last
minute. With her Adam who is also a struggling student to revise for his exams
who left his revision to the last minute just like Sara. As it is getting late its been
a long day of revision nearly time to leave school and go home. As they exiting
the classroom Sra leaves her bag behind and tells Adam to wait for him in the
middle of the corridors. As Sara is gone to get her bag, Adam is waiting patiently
for her, suddenly a mysterious figure appears in the background and walks past
him. Adam desperately checks the time on his watch, what he doesnt realise the
possessed girl is right beside him and attacks him without him seeing it coming.
This leaves Sara all by herself in the building with the possessed girl keeping her
company. Sara finally finds her bag and tries to leave the classroom in a hurry,
she hears a strange noise in the background, and turns out its the possessed girl
who is haunting her. Feelings of fear and distress is flowing in Saras mind and
she backs out of the room with immense anxiety hoping the possessed girl
doesnt haunt her. As she leaves the room we see the possessed girl which is
floating in the air behind her, but as Sara turn behind she is no longer present.
Levels of tension and horror is increasing and she makes a run for it. She cries
out Adams name to see if he is there. She later squints her eye and sees the
possessed girl walking slowly towards. As Sara is unsure whether its the
possessed girl she checks again if its her. Not knowing she is lurking behind her,
she gets attacked by the possessed girl leaving her as the latest victim to fall in
to her treacherous path.

The Grudge (2004)

The Grudge is an American Supernatural horror film the Grudge includes a

character called Karen Davis as one of the main characters in the film. Similarly
to Sara, Karen they are both innocent characters that act very alike and this is
conveyed through the situation they both face as both of their lives are in
danger. Plus both protagonists are female which can be argued as one of the
similarities both film share. The fact that we used a female as our main
protagonist shows the idea that they are being victimised due to their
vulnerability and they are defenceless. This allows the audience to interpret the
characters even better because of the target audience we have chosen. As a
group when we were brainstorming ideas about which specific film to replicate,
when we thought about 'The Grudge' and how the characters are portrayed it
linked really well with our production as it had contained the same concept. This
is mainly due to the innocence of both protagonist and not only does the
character have an innocent look on them, but also their physical weakness
suggests their insecurity and vulnerability. Moreover in terms of occupation, both
of the protagonist share the same job title as they are both students, as Karen in
The Grudge is an exchange student from America, and the protagonist in our
production is a student as well. In terms of class both protagonists are middle
class people as they are both wearing smart clothes which suggests the idea of
being smart and noble. Another similarity is that both of the antagonist have one
key feature which is that they both have long hair.
