Marketplace
Mahane Yehuda Market is a marketplace in
Jerusalem, Israel. It is recognized as a symbol
of Jerusalem. Jerusalemites see it as a place
that represents them and gives them a unique
identity in a larger Israeli social context.

There are fresh fruits and vegetables;

baked goods; fish, meat and cheeses;
nuts, seeds, and spices; wines and
liquors; clothing and shoes; and
housewares, textiles, and Judaica.
Even though Jerusalem today has many
shopping and entertainment centers, some are
even at several hotels in Jerusalem, there is
something about the Machane Yehuda market
that attracts people, even without a shopping
list. Perhaps it is the ability to simply be who we
are; people who love life and Jerusalem

The Holocaust
The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its
collaborators. Holocaust is a word of Greek origin meaning "sacrifice by fire."Anti-Semitism in Europe did not begin with Adolf Hitler.
Though use of the term itself dates only to the 1870s, there is evidence of hostility toward Jews long before the Holocausteven as far
back as the ancient world, when Roman authorities destroyed the Jewish temple in Jerusalem and forced Jews to leave Palestine. The
Enlightenment, during the 17th and 18th centuries, emphasized religious toleration, and in the 19th century Napoleon and other
European rulers enacted legislation that ended long-standing restrictions on Jews. Anti-Semitic feeling endured, however, in many cases
taking on a racial character rather than a religious one.
The Catastrophe (al-Nakba)
The 1948 Palestinian Exodus

Later there was a series of laws passed by the Israeli government prevented them from returning to theirs home or
claiming their property,
Factor involved in the exodus included

ends at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Christian Quarter,
covering 500 meters and incorporating 14 Stations of the Cross. Via
Dolorosa also has busy streets lined with snack bars and tourist
shops.

Each of the 14 Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa is marked
with a plaque, but these small signs can be difficult to spot.

The most popular time to follow the Via Dolorosa is during Holy Week,
when thousands of pilgrims, led by Franciscans, follow the route to the
crucifixion.
