Engine Rating Changes Using

CAT ET
Step 1 - Launch CAT ET

-Connect bus adapter to vehicle (DPA, CAT Comm, etc.)


-Vehicle must be on but engine not running
Step 2 Connect CAT ET to vehicle

-Pressing F8 connects CAT ET to vehicle bus adapter and engine ECM


Step 3 ECM Summary Screen

-CAT ET default opens to ECM Summary Screen


-This screen gives basic information about the ECM and its configuration
Step 4 Open Configuration Screen

-Configuration screen can be accessed by pressing F5 or selecting Service then


Configuration
-This screen gives detailed information about the ECM and its configuration
Step 5 View rating information

-Expand Selected Engine Rating to see current rating


Step 6 Select Rating Number

-Select Rating Number press change at the bottom


Step 7 Select New Rating

-Select Rating Number that matches desired change and press OK


-Many CAT ECM configurations only have 1 available rating and may require a new
configuration (flash file) to enable multiple ratings
-Note warning message
Step 8 Confirm Change
Slide 9 Get Factory Passwords to
Make Change

-Get 2 factory passwords to make change and press OK


-Passwords can be had by using Caterpillar web interface (requires credentials)
-Passwords are unique for each vehicle and each change
-Most critical ECM parameters require factory passwords for changes
Done !

This is a basic overview of how it is done. There are a lot of nuances not covered in this
document that may be required to make changes based on the ECM and the desired
change.
