(250-500 words) In this observation, | was centered on the lesson and especially on the leamer-centered teaching method. This is one of courses of the Intensive English Program which'€alled Reading and Writing for students of English level 300. The students are from Japan, Korea and middle-east countries. | wanted to see how the teacher helped the students distinguish and organize the topic and topic sentence when they write paragraphs. In terms of the leamer-centered teaching method, the teacher should know and meet the students needs and learning purposes, and I learnt how effective this method could be used in a reading and writing class. An important skill in teaching is the ability to make your leamers the focus of your teaching (Richards & Farrell, 2013, p. 120). This involves b understanding your learers’ needs and goals, communicating trust and respect for them, Aref seknowledging diversity of needs and leaming styles, giving feedback on their learning wit, in ways that help develop their confidence and self-esteem and minimize loss of face, and Yer using strategies that help develop an atmosphere of collaboration and mutual support engee ~ among leamers (Domyei 2001; Lamb 2003, p. 120), ‘© During this observation class, esause of students/J¢W English proficiency, the teacher tried to use many gestures facial expressions to increase students understandings. Furthermore, he always repeated his writing and submitting requirements to make sure that those students can get the point. Besides, when the teacher explained how to write a good topic sentence, he used a lots of examples which are all from our daily life and change words to express his ideas. After he explained his ideas, he usually ask students to talk about their own situations or opinions about the theme, and if someone made an excellent answer, the teacher gave him or her rewards. In my opinion, I think learner-centered teaching method is an awesome way that can arise students’ interests, and they are willing to involve in the class and spread their own ~ opinions.
