18236 GRADE LEVEL: 2 (MEDIUM EASY) Alfred’s | Young Symphonic Band Series WHITEHALL Astrogate"OCt BAND By Steve Hodges Astrogate can be defined as navigating a spacecraft through space. This piece opens with the calm serenity of floating in space followed by the excitement of re-entry into the earth's atmosphere. The opening section should be understated and legato, with the flute solo soaring above the accompaniment. The Allegro section shbuld be highly energized, and care should be taken to observe the articulation and dynamic markings to achieve the desired excitement. The Coda should have the feeling of “winding down” with the smooth entrance of the woodwinds before the dramatic finish. = INSTRUMENTATION 1 — Conductor Score 4 — 1st B} Trumpet 10 — Flute 4 — 2nd Bb Trumpet 2 — Oboe 3 — {st Trombone 2 — Bassoon 3 — 2nd Trombone 6 — 1st Bb Clarinet 2 — Baritone T.C. 6 — 2nd Bh Clarinet 2 — Baritone B.C. 1 — Eb Alto Clarinet 4 — Tuba 2 — BP Bass Clarinet 2 — Mallets (Bells, Xylophone) 2 — 1stEbAlto Saxophone 2 — Percussion (Sus.
