ENGLISH CAMP 2015
Introduction
This program is designed to provide 100 primary school students from Sekolah
Kebangsaan Kesang with an opportunity to improve their conversational English ability
by practising, listening and speaking in English with a fun, informal academic
environment.
Theme
Rationale
The sooner the lower-level students experience high exposure to English, the stronger
their English skills will be, in both listening and speaking. The purpose of this program
is to provide an opportunity for students to fully immerse themselves in the English
language through activities with other students and facilitators.
Objectives
Students will interact with and get to know students from other classes.
Students will meet and engage with visiting facilitators, not their regular English
teachers.
Students will play games and participate in a wide variety of activities, all focused
on improving the students effective English-speaking skills.
Students will practise listening and speaking in English in an informal setting with
other students and facilitators.
All pupils.

Schedule
Activity A: Spelling words with body : Kids using their bodies to make the letters in
the English alphabets. The kids are given 2 minutes to form each word.
Objective : Throughout this activity, kids use their physical and mental ability to form
letters read by the facilitators. They also build up their team work by working
together to spell the words. They can either build small or capital letters but not the
combination of both.
ACTIVITY B : Fairy tale Food : Tinkerbells trifle. Trifle is an English dessert dish
made from thick (or often solidified) custard, fruit, sponge cake (often soaked in
sherry or other fortified wine), fruit juice or jelly (gelatin in American English), and
whipped cream. These ingredients are usually arranged in layers.
Objective : To expose to the kids the famous and easy English desert. Since kids are
so crazy about chocolate, chocolate trifle is the best for them instead of classic trifle
consisting mixed fruits and to let them know they can make halal trifle.
ACTIVITY C : Obstacle Course each and every pupil will be given 2 minutes to
complete the course. Upon completing the course, they will receive a piece of jigsaw
puzzle and try to solve the puzzle. No piece will be given to those who fail.
Objective : To develop childrens gross motor development and to promote quick, easy
and lively movement.
Objective : To enhance kids creativity and promote the fun way of learning about
fairy tale.
Objective : From this activity, kids can cooperate with their team mates to create
their own monster using their own imagination and innovation. This activity is important
also to promote 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) practice in their daily life.
ACTIVITY F : Hide and speak : Pupils are divided into two teams. Explain that you
have hidden cards throughout the room. On your word, students will search the room
for the cards you have hidden. They can only pick up one card at a time. When a student
finds a card, he must bring it to you and answer the question on the card. If he answers
it correctly, he earns the card for his team. If he does not answer it correctly, he
must get someone else from his team to help him find the answer. Once students have
correctly answered the question on their card, they can search for another card. At
the end of the game (after a certain amount of time or when all the cards have been
found) the team with the most cards in their possession wins.
Objective : All of the questions are basically about characters in the fairy tale.
Throughout this activity, they try to solve the riddles given. In other words, they have
read about fairy tales before coming to this camp.
Characters : Cinderella, Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel,
Rapunzel, The Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the three bears, Beauty and the
Beast, Rumpelstiltskin, Puss in Boots.
Objective : To test the kids knowledge about Jack and the beanstalk.
Challenge E: Charade games based on scenes in fairy tales. Facilitator will act the
scenes, the kids will answer from which story the scene happened.
Objective : To test about what they know about fairy tales. Throughout this activity,
they have to depend on their listening and speaking skills, not reading skill.
Materials: None
Challenge G: Write an acrostic poem about fairy tale. (An acrostic is a poem or other
form of writing in which the first letter, syllable or word of each line, paragraph or
other recurring feature in the text spells out a word or a message).
Objective : This is the only activity to develop their writing skill after listening,
speaking and reading skills.
