Assignment 6.1: Features of two different types of graphics

A bitmap image is made up of many single pixels that all together
compose an image. This type of graphic can only occur when the picture
is taken by a digital camera. When you zoom into a bitmap graphic it
tends to lose quality and you can see every individual pixel.
A vector image is made up of shapes and lines in 2D OR 3D space. This
image is created on a computer it uses mathematical statements or
commands to create the image
Bitmap Image
The bitmap image that I have chosen is Harry potter
and the half-blood prince (the image to the left) this
is the official movie poster this image is taken on a
digital camera which means that its a bitmap
graphic another way to verify which graphic type it is
would be to zoom into the picture and if the pixels
become visible this would also confirm that it is a
bitmap graphic.
As you can see the image is blurry
and hard to make out (this is because of
the pixels that become visible)

The text present in this image is the tittle in the signature

harry potter font used in every movie and book cover. The picture doesnt
have any other text. There are many colours present in this movie cover
such as the dark blue sky mixed with the white and the sky has been
applied with a dark, gloomy filter, this is to set the scene for the battle
that occurs in this movie. The characters currently present in this movie
cover are; Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore, Ron Weasley and lastly
Hermoine Granger. The background of this image is a famous London it is
formally known as the Swiss Re Building.
The purpose of this image is to inform passers-by about the upcoming
movie, another purpose of this image would be to persuade people to go
and watch the movie when it comes out, the way that it fulfils this is by
having a mysterious look and not explaining whats going to happen as it
doesnt create a clear image in your head on where the story line is
heading.
The dimension of this image is 500x741 the width is 500 pixels and the
length is 741. Its horizontal resolution and vertical resolution is 96 dpi
(Dots per Inch), also the BIT depth (number of bits of information in each
sample) is 24. The item type is a JPEG image and the size/space it takes is
123KB to store.

Advantage:
o It sets the scene by showing
you where the story is set
and who are the main
characters (Harry, Ron,
Dumbledore and Hermione)
Disadvantage:
o A disadvantage of this movie
poster is that it isnt eye
catching or bold its gloomy
and cant be identified from
afar due to the lack of
colours and bold text

Vector Image
The vector image that Ive chosen is a road
sign that warns people about falling rocks
there are no words present on this sign as the
picture explains everything.
The purpose of a road sign is to inform the
pedestrians and the drivers when they reach
an area with falling
The way you can identify that this is a vector
image is by zooming in onto the image and
as you can see below the original image
pixels are not visible and since this image is
not taken by a digital camera and is made from shapes and lines meaning
that it doesnt become pixelated.
The reason why the picture is in a
red triangle because the signs in
this certain shape are warnings
and if its in a circle they warn
you of what you can & cant do
on that road e.g. road speed limits this is there so
that you know how fast you can drive without
receiving a road ticket this is known as prohibitive
warnings.
