production of the Housatonic
Musical Theatre Society at
Housatonic Valley Regional
High School, which was per-
formed on March 16 to 18.
His character, Man in Chair,
introduces the fictional musical,
The Drowsy Chaperone, and
plays the vinyl record for a visitor.
Meanwhile the show acts itself
out in his room.
It was a technically demand-
ing show. The cast and crew made
it look easy although they had
lost one night of rehearsal to last
weeks snowstorm.
The singing was strong and
the dancing confident.
It was a pleasure to watch.
The Drowsy Chaperone
was directed by Michael Berke-
ley, produced by Lori Belter
and choreographed by Amber
Cameron.

Population growth is
slowing worldwide
This year, schools and towns in the Northwest Corner have
been concerned about drops in the number of full-time resi-
dents (especially those with school-age children). Chambers
of commerce and economic development commissions have
been meeting to discuss ways to boost population and increase
enrollment at the six Region One elementary schools.
The Sharon Board of Education put together a task force a
few months ago to look at the problem and try to come up with
some solutions. At an early meeting, there was a presentation on
statistics by Mike Goman of the regional consulting firm Goman
and York and by Jocelyn Ayer from the Northwest Connecticut
Council of Governments (which is an organization made up of
the first selecctmen from 21 Litchfield County towns).
A particularly interesting part of that presentation showed
