I am a first-year student at SMU Dedman School of Law and am writing to apply for a summer

School of Laws Career Services database and through current and former associates at your firm.
Interning at _____ would allow me to gain the experience and insight necessary for the growth and
development of an aspiring young attorney, and I feel confident that I could contribute substantively to

My diverse background has provided me with many skills that your firm will find useful. At
Texas Tech University, I majored in philosophy, an area requiring analytical, communicative and writing
proficiency. Additionally, in my undergraduate summer of 2015, I effectively advocated to congress and
federal agencies and educated them on the needs of my university in conjunction with the D.C. office of
Arnold & Porter and Alpine Group.

I have many interests in the law, and am seeking a firm that will enable me to explore numerous
practice areas this summer. I understand that your firm has an excellent rotation system to expose summer
associates to a plethora of legal issues. I recently spoke with ______, a graduate of _____ and member of
your _______ department, whose description of your firms prominent ______ practice intrigued me. I
hope to have an opportunity to work in that practice area and others this summer.
