PA hushes up attempted rape of American
"peace activist"

From Ha’aretz:, a story dripping with
irony:
The Palestinian Authority, as well as
the leaders of the Palestinian popular
protests in villages such as Bil’in,
Na’alim, Umm Salmuna, have been
trying to keep the following story
away from both public knowledge
and the media’s eye: One of the more
prominent Umm Salmuna activists –
a village south of Bethlehem, long
entrenched in a battle against the
West Bank separation fence – is
suspected of the attempted rape of an
American peace activist who had
been residing in the village as part of
her support of the local protest.
Omar Aladdin, who had been
arrested three months ago over
suspicions he had attempted to rape
the U.S. citizen, was subsequently
released after agreeing to apologize to
the young woman. However, Haaretz
had learned that representatives of
both the popular protest movement
and the PA have since applied
pressure on the American peace
activist as to prevent her from making
the story public.
The incident allegedly took place last
April, as Aladdin, who had served a
term in the Israeli jail in the past,
arrived one evening at the guest
house in which many of the foreign
peace activists were staying. The
European and American female
activists reportedly agreed to let
Aladdin stay with them after he had
told them he feared the Israel Defense
Forces were on his tail, adding that he
had been severely beaten at an IDF
checkpoint only a week before.
During his stay Aladdin allegedly
attempted to rape a Muslim-American
woman, nicknamed “Fegin” by

fellow activists. The woman escaped,
later accusing the popular protest man
of the attempt. One villager who had
encountered the American following
the incident said she had been in a
state of shock.
Aladdin then refused to apologize for
the incident, when news of it reached
the village’s popular committee, the
popular protests’ governing body,
allegedly saying that the incident had
been marginal and normal. The
American activist then asked the
committee to notify authorities of the
attempted rape, a request which
resulted in the man being arrested by
security forces in Bethlehem. After
agreeing to apologize for the incident,
Aladdin was released from custody
by the PA police.
The U.S. citizen was then convinced
to retract her complaint, as to avoid
tainting the image of the popular
protest, which had attracted praise
from around the world in recent
months.
However, the Umm Salmuna case is
not the only one. Separation fence
activists know of other incidents in
which Palestinians molested and
sexually assaulted foreign peace
activists, a subject which was
apparently raised in the discussions of
the various popular committees.
Foreign female peace activists
regularly participate in protests in the
villages of Bil’in, Na’alin, and others,
where the activists stay in separate
houses. Some villagers do not agree
with these housing arrangements,
claiming that the villages’ youth, who
frequently visit the activists, are
corrupted by the young women.
One villager said the female activists
bring a different “culture with them,
western, too open. The young people,
especially from the villages, aren’t
used to stay near other girls, they do
not know their culture, certainly when
it’s a young woman staying with

So now we have liberal Westerners
agreeing to hush up stories of sexual
abuse – tacitly supporting a
repressive, patriarchal society.
Notice also how easily these female
Western activists agreed to shield a
man who said he was wanted by
Israeli authorities. This sounds a lot
like when the ISM shielded a
Palestinian Jihad terrorist:
In March 2003, Israeli troops raided
ISM’s West Bank offices in Jenin and
captured a suspected member of the
terrorist organization Islamic Jihad.
The Israeli army identified Shadi
Suqiyeh, who was hiding in the ISM
office, as a senior member of Islamic
Jihad who had planned a number of
foiled attacks on Israelis. A statement
released by ISM soon after the
incident explained that Suqiyeh was
brought into the apartment by an ISM
volunteer “concerned about his
welfare” because “under Israeli
military curfew, Palestinians spotted
in the streets are shot on sight.”
Finally, isn’t it interesting that in this
case the young man specifically
chose the only Muslim American
activist to be the victim?
One more point: this is hardly the
first clash between Palestinian Arab
culture and so-called “peace
activists.” In fact, Rachel Corrie may
have been trying to ingratiate herself
with Palestinian Arabs who were
threatening the Westerners when she
decided to become a human shield:
[Corrie] was propelled, in part, by
frustration. During the past few days
she and the nine other ISM activists
had become preoccupied with an
anonymous letter circulating through
Rafah that cast suspicion on the
human shields.“Who are they? Why
are they here? Who asked them to
come here?” it asked. The letter
referred to Corrie and the other
twilight of Shabbat eve: the mouth of
the earth [that swallowed Korach];
feedjournal.

foreign bitches” whom “our
Palestinian young men are following
around.” It was a sobering reminder
that outsiders — even international
do-gooders — were untrustworthy in
the eyes of some Palestinians.
That morning, the ISM team tried to
devise a strategy to counteract the
letter’s effects.“We all had a feeling
that our role was too passive. We
talked about how to engage the Israeli
military,” Richard “Fuzz” Purssell
told me by phone from Great Britain.
…That morning, team members made
a number of proposals that seemed
designed only to aggravate the
problem. Purssell, for instance,
suggested marching on a checkpoint
that had been the site of several
suicide attacks. “ The idea was to
more directly challenge the Israeli
military dominance using our
international status,” Purssell told me.

The Inhuman Government

One of the great errors of big
government liberalism is its belief
that inhuman systems are superior to
human beings. This form of
mechanical thinking is a
commonplace error in a scientific age
in which we have become used to
using mechanical systems to solve
problems. But people are not
machines, and trying to turn people
into gears in the great machine of
government leads to tragic results.
The embrace of big government in
the United States was driven by the
belief in scientific government as a
perfectible system. This creepy
worship of elitist technocracy lingers
around the more idealistic liberal
administrations, from FDR to JFK to
Obama. Always followed by a list of
PhD’s and degree holders in the
cabinet revealing a failure to
understand that higher education does
not make one immune from human
flaws. The idea of a perfected
government is at odds with
democracy, which treats political
chaos and voter misjudgments as
valid tradeoffs for a leash on
government. It worships the idea of
government, rather than the reality of
government. An egotistical exercise
for policy wonks certain that the right
people can set everything to right,
regardless of what the people as a
whole might think about it.
ObamaCare showed us the ugly
spectacle of elitist government and its
supporters, dismissing and ignoring
the democratic objections of the
public as the clamor of an ignorant
and dangerous rabble. That is how
tyrants throughout history have
viewed public protest. It is not
however the response of a democratic
government to the will of the
majority. It is how those who view
their policy endgame as a superior
ideal to the will of the people, think
and act. And that is shorthand for
tyranny.
To argue that government gets its
authority not from representative
democracy, but from the purity of
their policymaking is to create an
ideological tyranny. It is the
deathblow of democracy. And yet
that is exactly what the raison d’etre
of the Obama Administration has
been. Government as god, dispensing
the blessings of its policymaking to
the unworthy hoi polloi, the great
unwashed who don’t know enough to
go green, buy health insurance and
read the Huffington Post. And when
those who govern feel themselves to
be superior to those they govern, they
divest power from the people, and
invest it in systems under their own
control. And so big government
grows even bigger.
Where the Founders viewed
Constitutional government as a kind
of anti-system, an inoculation against
government that was meant to keep in
its place, liberalism has come to view
government as the ultimate tool that
can do anything. Government as a
Swiss Army Knife of course leads to
even bigger government. Where the
Bill of Rights tried to restrain the role
of government by creating legal
DMZ’s where its authority could not
extend, subsequent Supreme Courts
and legislatures have in some cases
eroded and in other cases eradicated
those DMZ’s in the name of the
public good. The public good of
course not being defined by the
public, but by the branches of
government itself.
The dangerous fascination with
systems is a hallmark of inhuman
government. That is because those
who love systems the most, distrust
human beings. Representative
Democracy works on the
understanding that people are flawed,
and that those flaws are nevertheless
who we are. Tyranny on the other
hand insists that the right person can
rule the mob for their own good.
Modern liberalism with its
progressive ideas of government,
insists that the right system can bring
equality and teach everyone to be
better people under the all-
encompassing arm of the nanny state.
To think that way, you first have to
define human beings as the problem.
Where the Constitution defined
government as the problem, the
modern day rulers view the
limitations of the Constitution as an
irritating remnant of paranoid
landholders, with as much relevance
as the Magna Carta. It may be paid
lip service to, so long as it isn’t taken
too seriously. Because they know that
the real problem are the people.
Which is how it is from the
perspective of rulers. The system to
them is a tool for controlling the real
problem, the people.
The system of course isn’t human.
Or rather it’s as human as its
strongest elements and as inhuman as
its weakest elements. A strong
controlling figure in a system
humanizes it for good or ill. That is
why a system is only as good or bad
as the people who hold authority
within it. That reduces the system
once more to the human frailties of
those who hold power in the system.
Corrupt officials will corrupt a
system. Because the system is them
writ large. But the bigger a system
gets, the less human it becomes. That
is because its size diminishes the
ability of individuals to influence its
full scope. Instead the system begins
to run on scripts. Scripts define how
those serving within the system will
react to events. Which leads to the
painful inflexibility and rigidity of
bureaucracies, as men and women
who have been trained to respond like
machines, try to cope with a crisis.
The bigger a system gets, the less
human it is. It becomes increasingly
automated. A machine that grows in
order to grow. It makes collective
decisions that are incredibly bad, and
yet unavoidable, because they are no
longer the product of people, but of a
living machine. Like a dinosaur, it is
slow and plodding. It resists change
and yet it is constantly making plans
that it is incapable of carrying out. It
has no sense of purpose, because
purpose is a human quality. Instead it
has physical properties which guide
its mechanical responses to
challenges. This inhumanity leads to
the cruel tyranny of the system,
whose very cruelty derives from its
deafness to human sensibilities. In
attempting to create a perfect system,
the advocates of scientific
government instead create
Frankenstein’s Monster, a creature
that has power over men, but is not
human.
Nor is the Inhuman System an
improvement over the human one.
That is because it still has no mind of
its own. Instead it has to follow the
instructions scripted by those in
power. The delay between the
instructions and the problem are what
make it inhuman. As it grows, its
structure makes it increasingly more
difficult to script. That is when the
monster comes alive sufficiently
enough to protect its own survival, at
the expense of its host. It consumes
resources, draws more and more
power into itself, so that it is at once
indispensable and ungovernable. The
embedded bureaucracy within a
system function as its neurons,
relaying information without being
able to act independently on it. Like a
living corpse, the system keeps
moving, but it cannot do anything but
consume. It was designed as a tool for
solving problems, but it has become
one big problem.
Rules are the scripts of the system,
but rules may be made by humans,
but once humans cease to
intelligently administer them, they
too become inhuman. The law in
abstract has no regard for humanity,
only for the odds. And the more a
system grows, the less regard it has
for human intervention from juries or
elected officials. Human beings are
too unpredictable to fit into a system,
unless their behavior is a known
quantity. And the only way to make
human behavior into a known
quantity is by limiting their choices,
controlling their minds and enforcing
a desired outcome. Which becomes
the purpose of the system.
Since no system can properly
accommodate human individuality,
the system chases after its subjects
with more rules. As human beings
adapt to the rules, more rules are
required. As new rules are brought
into being to modify the old rules, the
result is a system with endless rules
that fewer people pay attention to.
Crime becomes law, and law
becomes crime. Everyone is
constantly in violation of the rules,
and depends on human intervention
to protect them from the system. The
government at this point has become
utterly corrupted. It exists to
administer shadow networks of
interests who dispense bribes and
receive favors in return. The system
itself no longer works, because it has
parted ways with humanity. Instead
the system is a piggy bank for the
elite and a dangerous obstacle for the
general public to avoid. This is the
destiny of all big government before
its collapse. To become a threat to the
people it ruled over and a toy for
those who rule over it.
The inhuman government which
replaced representative democracy,
with the elitism of the system itself,
inevitably reverts to tribalism and
common criminality, because family

Every day seems to bring yet a new
outrage against free speech and
democratic rights in Israel.
Yesterday, the Israeli police
manhandled the director of Women
of the Wall, wrested a sacred Torah
scroll from her hands, and hauled her
off to jail–all for praying. Today, it
only took 34 of the 120 member of
the Knesset who actually had the guts
to strip Israeli Palestinian MK
Haneen Zoabi of her parliamentary
privileges–all because she
represented her constituents faithfully
and joined the Gaza flotilla. The
greatest shame perhaps is that only 16
Knesset members opposed this anti-
democratic abortion.
What is interesting about all this is
that Zoabi broke no Israeli law in
doing so (she might have had the
flotilla reached Gaza). So in effect,
the Knesset minority basically said
you did something offensive and we
will punish you for it. This usurps

A Libyan charity’s ship carrying aid
for the Gaza Strip is stalled in
international waters, the Israeli
military has said, as questions persist
over whether it plans to defy an
Israeli naval blockade of the
Palestinian territory.
With Israel insisting the ship will not
reach Hamas-ruled Gaza, there is
potential for another showdown. An
Israeli naval raid of another blockade-
busting ship in May killed nine
activists.
The captain of the Moldovan-flagged
Amalthea told the Israeli navy just
before midnight that engine troubles
had hobbled the ship and that efforts
were being made to repair it. The
military, which had four missile ships
tailing the Libyan vessel, has said it is
still idled about 80 miles from Gaza.
Israeli military officials earlier said
the captain had told Israel he was
heading for the Egyptian port of el-
Arish, near Gaza. Egypt had
promised to transfer the ship’s
supplies to Gaza if it docked there.
A spokesman for the Libyan mission
insisted the ship still intended to try
to reach the Palestinian territory – but
would not violently resist any efforts
to stop them.
“First and foremost we want to arrive
to Gaza. If this is impossible we don’t
want to subject anyone to danger,”

Iranian nuke scientist returning to
Iran An Iranian nuclear scientist who
defected to the United States during a
pilgrimage to Mecca is returning to
Iran out of fear for his family’s
safety. This is from the first link.
A missing Iranian nuclear scientist
dramatically turned up at the Iranian
interests section of Pakistan’s
embassy in Washington, and was
quoted as saying he was kidnapped
by U.S. agents in a “disgraceful act.”
But a U.S. official, who declined to
be named, said Shahram Amiri, who
vanished during a pilgrimage to Saudi
Arabia more than a year ago, had
been visiting the United States and
had decided “to return to Iran of his
own free will.”
Tehran has repeatedly accused the
CIA of abducting Amiri, who worked
for Iran’s Atomic Energy
Organization, but ABC news had
reported he defected and was helping
the agency. Washington denied he
was spirited away for nuclear secrets.
“My kidnapping was a disgraceful act
for America … I was under enormous
psychological pressure and
supervision of armed agents in the
past 14 months,” Amiri, who is in his
thirties, was quoted as saying in a
phone interview with Iran’s state TV.
Politico’s Laura Rozen adds:
A Pakistan Foreign Ministry
spokesman has confirmed that Amiri
came to its Washington embassy at
6:30pm Monday night. The Pakistan
embassy houses the Iran interests
section in the United States, which
does not have formal diplomatic ties
with Iran.
Mustafa Rahmani, head of the
Iranian interests section, “is making
arrangements for [Amiri's]
repatriation back to Iran,’” the Los
Angeles Times reports.

Israeli economist Shir Hever, a
researcher for the Alternative
Information Center, was recently
interviewed by RealNews TV about
the relationship between economic
issues and social control in Israel.
One astonishing fact he noted was
that 18 Israeli families control fully
60% of the equity value of all Israeli
companies. Their wealth is
concentrated in the four largest
industries in Israel: banking and
insurance, chemicals, high tech, and
military/homeland security.
When you think about the once
proud history of Israel as an
egalitarian society which valued the
work and skills of every individual
(even if it didn’t do that for the
Palestinian Israelis) and created a
social safety net that was the envy of
the Scandinavian countries–Israel has
become what it once hated. In 1965,
it was rated one of the most equal
nations in the world in terms of
distribution of wealth. Today, it is a
corporate wild west in which a
quarter to third of all Israelis live
below the poverty line. An even
larger percentage of all Israeli
children live below it as well since
the Israeli poor tend to be Israeli
Palestinian and Haredi and have
extremely large families.

marketeers like Netanyahu and Natan
Sharansky. According to Hever
Israel is the second most unequal
country in the world after the U.S.
Israel spends 75% less than the
average western nation on
redistributive programs like health
care, unemployment, infrastructure
and job creation. The reason: it
invests so much of its budget in
security it can’t afford to properly
fund these social programs.
Some of this wealth has been drawn
to Israel by laws allowing Jews to
come to Israel no questions asked.
There may be outstanding lawsuits or
arrest warrants, but they live
comfortably in the knowledge that
Israel will not extradite them to face
their alleged crimes out of faux-
Zionist solidarity.
This is not the Israel our
grandparents fought for, the Israel for
which Hebrew school children
dropped millions of coins into their
JNF boxes.

The team of lawyers who filed the
suit for the victims charged that “Al-
Jazeera intentionally reported live
coverage of the locations of the
missile strikes inside of Israel in
violation of military censorship
regulations, in order to enable
Hizbullah to aim the missiles more
that the faking of British passports
was “the mark of an arrogant nation
that has overreached itself.” On June
30, an editorial on the Russian
espionage case in the same
newspaper failed to even mention the
alleged use of a forged United
Kingdom passport.
The BBC, too, has given “negligible”
coverage to the UK passport forgery
in its items on the Russian spy affair.
“Of the eight articles published on its
news website on the subject in the
last 24 hours, only three even
mention the issue,” Just Journalism

fundamental glue that remains when
all other conventional values of
citizenship have been destroyed. The
implosion of the system reverts
humanity backward to a more
primitive stage and in doing so begins
the cycle all over again.
Larger systems are not the solution
to human problems, and a system is
only as good as it is human. It is not
rules that make systems work, but
people that do. Systems strive for
perfectibility, but humans are
inherently imperfect. Our errors are
the product of who we are, and a
system that denies that, denies
humanity. The rule bound system
assumes that humans are the problem,
and opens a gap between itself and
the human reality, and in doing so
tears a gap in the fabric of
government. To believe that people
are the problem is to surrender our
humanity to anyone who can promise
a better system. But people are
governed best by human systems
which offer a tactile sense of
consequences, rather than systems
built on ideals and destroyed by their
inherent detachment from the human
reality and the oppressive
totalitarianism that results from this.
The inhuman government cannot
build a utopia. Nor should that be the
goal. It is not systems that build
people, but people who build
systems. To forget that is to give in to
the tyrannical impulse and become
less than human.

Given that Obama won the prize
without bringing peace anywhere,
maybe Abu Mazen has a point. YNet

doesn’t say who the ‘ mediators’
might be.

Amalthea heading for El Arish So
here’s the latest.
Israel radio reports (Wednesday
morning 7:30 am) that the Amalthea
crew says that the ship is heading
toward El Arish (Egypt). The Israeli
Navy is trailing the ship and has
orders to stop it if it enters Israel’s
territorial waters.
The Libyans (who are behind the
ship but do not operate it – the
captain is Greek) claim the ship is
heading toward Gaza.
