Dear Assessor,
My name is Tuyet Nguyen and I am in the fourth year of my undergraduate education
program at Alverno College. My major is Education with an English Language Arts
minor. This portfolio includes the work I have done as a teacher candidate throughout my
years at Alverno. Thank you so much for spending your time to review my portfolio and
assess the work I have done.
Throughout the years of my education at Alverno, with my own efforts and thanks to the
valuable assistance from my Alverno instructors, staff, and friends, I believe I have
shown tremendous progress toward my dream of becoming a teacher. Growing up and
living all of my life in northern Vietnam, I will never forget that I came from a
background of such simple knowledge and experience, with limited prior learning,
cultural challenges and an English handicap. In other words, the knowledge I carried with
me to Alverno was almost nil; instead, I brought my passion for education and a
commitment to be responsible for my studies. Fortunately, I overcame almost all
obstacles and have gained so much more confidence to be prepared and successful in the
world of education. Learning from my own experiences and my progress, I am more
convinced that every student is able to learn. With this experience, besides accompanying
students in their learning, I desire to bring joy, passion, and a responsible attitude to the
classroom, as well as wanting to infuse students with a belief that, with joy and
dedication, they will be able to fulfill their purpose for learning, thereby enriching their
lives and the lives of others.
In this portfolio, I include artifacts and evidence that clearly show my progress in
education throughout the years I have spent at Alverno College. Particularly, I consider
my progress to have been remarkable from the beginning to the end of each semester. The
evidence and artifacts demonstrate my growth, especially through the understanding of
the Wisconsin Teacher Standards and Alverno Education Abilities, as well as the four
areas of education: math, language arts, social studies, and science. For example, at the
beginning of the ED 201 course, I was struggling to understand the meaning of the
"Wisconsin Teacher Standards"; now I am able to clearly demonstrate these standards and
the Alverno abilities in my learning and teaching performance.
Once again thank you so much for reviewing my portfolio. Your great assistance is truly
appreciated!

Sincerely, and with gratitude,

Tuyet Nguyen
