CAST

VICTIM CHARACTER PROFILE

Name: Amber
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Physical appearance: She has an English
rose complexion, attractive and delicate
which conforms to her character that is
innocent. Her features stand out and
show her beauty, she is petite in both
height and weight.
Clothing: Throughout the opening of the
film she wears casual clothes which show
her relaxed, unconcerned nature which
further emphasises her innocence. She wears blue jeans, converse and a
big parka coat.
Make-up: She is wearing minimal, natural make-up that enhances all her
natural beauty. I chose to do this at it shows her youth and innocence. It
also portrays her character to be un-anxious or concerned about the way
she looks naturally or as someone who has low-self-confidence, she is just
happy in her own skin.
MALE ANTAGONIST
Name: Unknown
Age: Unknown
Gender: Male
Physical appearance: From when he is
introduced right until the closing scene none
of his physical appearance apart from his
size and height is revealed. He is fairly petite
for a male which doesnt really meet with the
expectations of what a villain would perhaps
look like. However he is extremely dangerous
and threatening.
Clothing: He wears all black from head to
toe, a black hoodie, black jeans and black
trainers. But the mask that covers his face is white, it hides all of his
features so he is completely anonymous, no one could identify him or
describe him.

COSTUME AND PROPS

Ambers outfit is what a typical 16 year

old would wear on a weekend,
fashionable, casual clothing. Her
clothing is comfortable, not tight and
clingy so she feels confident in herself
and doesnt make her feel self-conscious.
She has just been hanging out with her
friend so she doesnt care how she looks.
The nature of her character isnt the self-
obsessed type so she isnt bothered
about her appearance.
He wears all black which has
negative connotations such as This meant that we didnt have to go out
death, evil and mystery. It is also and buy clothes for her to wear; she

part of the film and the colour black
helps to achieve this.
LOCATION
I chose to film most of my opening at
the village train station in Harlington. My
decision to film at night was due to the
fact that it creates a more eerie, sinister
feel. However we did have some issues as
the quality is significantly reduced. Also at
night the train station is usually
completely isolated after 7pm
with only the odd few
people coming off at the
station. So this was a
highly preferable location as we
wouldnt be disturbed and we could make full use
of the remote, lonely atmosphere that helped create a
mysterious, eerie effect for our film opening.

We used different shots at different locations in the

beginning of the film to demonstrate the
mise-en-scene as soon as possible. It
addresses to the audience that the train
station is going to be the main part of
the film and revolve around it. I used the
train station because it is convenient for
me to get to as it is in the village I go to
school and most of my friends live in the
local area that are featuring in the film so it is also convenient for them. I
was able to be flexible and so could they for when they were able to film
as it could be any day after school when they were available.

The train station was built in 1868, the Victorian era so the stations
buildings are very old-fashioned. Buildings like this are usually associated
with being haunted or deserted for years and years. This helps emphasise
the narrative of my film opening, the daunting, and fear-some plot line
and makes the audience feel afraid. Other typical locations found in
horrors are grave yards, rural locations as well as suburban houses which
are more modern and realistic for the audience to relate to. Although
settings such as grave yards and isolated woods have more connotations
of fear, due to the isolation and lack of lighting, locations like suburban
mean the audience can relate the surroundings easier which may cause
more apprehension as theyd be in similar situations as seen in the film.
Furth more the stations pathways up to it and the bridge from each
platform arent very well lit, they are dark and gloomy. This adds to the
eerie effect as you can see shadows and they are shot as if someone is
behind the camera which puts the
audience on the edge of their seat.

SOUND
During my film opening there will be very little dialogue
between the characters but more diegetic sound such as the
trains passing and the beeping of the train doors closing. I will
use music to put over the film which will compliment my film
opening by making it more eerie and sinister.

I chose not to use dialogue in my film opening because

disturbing music heightens suspense and terror. The film The
Shallows influenced my film opening as there is very little
dialogue throughout the film and none in the opening of the
film. It heavily relies on sound effects to create the effect of
anxiety and fear in the audience.

I've found some websites that provide music to download,

some of which I have already saved to try using when I start
editing the opening. However, I think the music I use will be
one of the last choices I will make when editing to see which
would work best with the shots we have filmed. Although, I do
know I want a sound track with an irregular rhythm to create
confusion but increases in pace and volume to ensure suspense
is built over the 2 minutes. 'The Missing' a BBC drama has also
inspired my thought process for how to edit the opening due to
its use of graphics and sounds in the opening titles. Although
the music used in The Missing is more light hearted and has
more of a rock tone to it than I would want, the use of
asynchronous sounds that are sudden and contrast with the
visuals creates a sense of mystery and disorientation for the
audience, which I would like to mirror in my opening.
