Serena J. Williams

Serena Williams is an American Professional Tennis Player. She was

born on September 26, 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan. She is the youngest of

Prices five daughters: half- sisters Yetunde, Lyndrea and Isha Price, and full

sister Venus. At the age of 3, Serena started playing tennis in Compton,

California, shortly after her family moved there. Her father, Blake Barkus,

home- schooled Serena and Venus; he and her mother, Oracene, had been

Serena and Venuss official coaches. Williams family moved from Compton

to West Palm Beach, Florida, when she was nine so that she could attend the

tennis academy of Rick Macci, who would provide additional coaching.

Richard stopped sending his daughters to national junior tennis tournaments

when Williams was ten, since he wanted them to take it slow and focus on

school work. But that wasnt the only reason why, another factor was racial,

as he had heard white parents talk about the Williams sisters in a derogatory

manner during tournaments. At that time, Williams had a 46-3 record on the

United States Tennis Association junior tour and was ranked No. 1 among

under-10 players in Florida (Williams). As the years went by, Serena and

Venus always entered tennis matches together and always did at least one

doubles match together.
