Field Trip Write Up

Our field trip began with a trip to EITC. I live in Idaho Falls but I have never done much

with EITC so my eyes were opened to the benefits that technical schools can have on the

community. The dental hygienist program was set up in such a way that patients could receive

free dental care. Other free services are offered that open the way people to improve their life. A

way to better our community is education and using those skills in the community. The other stop

in Idaho Falls was Brenda Williams at Compass Academy. She inspired me. I feel that I can get

so focused on trying to be a teacher that I forget that I need to by myself. Heavenly Father made

me the way that I am for a reason. He has given me specific gifts and talents that can bless the

lives of His children. I need to use that personality and be myself. I can best touch the lives of

my students as I am myself and use those gifts and talents to help those in my class.

We attended Glanbia and the refugee center in Twin Falls. We attended the Denison

Center and the Renaissance Center. We met Dwight Johnson who is the CTE director for the

state of Idaho. We meet with the extension agents for Ada County. We toured the American Red

Cross. We toured LaNeige Bridal to understand an aspect of the fashion industry.

Attending the Denison Center, the Renaissance Center, and meeting Dwight Johnson

opened my eyes to the need for FACS and CTE educators. We are vital. At times it can feel that

society can forget the need for basic life skills but we are needed. I saw the need for us as

teachers. We are able to inspire students to have confidence, purpose, and vision. As a CTE

instructor, my students can enter the work force with actual experience. I feel passionate that
CTE programs are needed for high school students. They give them a sense of identity and

purpose. I am going to defend CTE programs of all types. I will fight to keep them in the schools

so that students can have the opportunity for a better life. I believe that CTE programs can help

students stay in school, learn, and have a well-paid career.
