To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Arturo Fuentes, and it is my pleasure to write this letter on behalf of Yesika Castillo. I
have known Yesika for three years in my time as a counselor at El Capitan High School in the
Merced Union High School District. During that time I have had the pleasure of watching her
mature into a strong student, a very respectful individual and a young woman of impeccable
character.

Yesikas greatest strength is her determination to move forward in life. Yesika has faced
obstacles in her life that most young adults her age would not be able to overcome. She did not
just overcome them she decided that she was not going to use tragedy as an excuse to not be
successful in school. She challenge herself academically and succeed at every step of the way.
She is now on track to apply to UC and CSUs , as her counselor I could not be more proud of her.
During a recent meeting she shared with me that she has already outlined her path in life. She
wants to start of by attending a CSU and majoring in Liberal Arts. After she complets her BA in
Liberal Arts she wants to apply to the teaching credential program and become a teacher for
elementary school aged children. A goal that I know she will reach with the determination that
she possesses.

In the academic arena, Yesika has proven that she possesses the skills and qualities that will
continue to lead her toward success. In the 1st quarter of the school year she has demonstrated
her ability to succeed academically. She currently has a 3.8 GPA and continues to work hard to
maintain her GPA. I have no doubts that she will continue the pattern of hard work and success as
she proceeds through her post-secondary career. It is also note worth to mention that she would
be the first in her family to graduate from high school a big accomplishment in itself, but she will
also be the first to attend college.

Yesika has worked hard and succeeded at becoming a well-rounded student and person, and I
speak positively on her behalf without exception or reservation. She has shown herself deserving
many times over, and no doubt will enjoy the successes for which she strives. If you have any
questions regarding Yesika, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Arturo Fuentes
