ROYALTY OF KPOP

Life at YG ENTERTAINMENT is like family life.

Everyone who is a rookie or a full-fledged star
gets on! CL and G-Dragon have a very close
knit relationship which has led to them
working together on so many concepts. They show
an incredibly iconic relationship between stars and
well known celebrities of Korea. The way they act
around one another is an example to other artists in
the music
industry.
The story behind Kwon Ji-Yongs stage name G-Dragon is a rather simple one.
The G in
G-Dragon comes from the
Ji part of his name.
The Dragon section of his name comes from the Yong segment of the name as
it literally translates to
Dragon from Korean.
As well as this simplistic translation there is the ideology that he was born in the
year of the Dragon according to the Chinese calendar
(August 18th, 1988).
G-Dragon had been training for a total of 7 years before he was recruited by YG
Entertainment. G-Dragon began his career at the age of five by joining a
junior group called Little RooRar. G-Dragon has been trained to be
brought up in the world of
entertainment and the music industry ever since. G-Dragon was under a record
label with the entertainment group SM Entertainment for five years. SM
manage some of the biggest groups in Korea to date such as; EXO, Red
Velvet and NCT. G-Dragon left SM at the age of 13 unclear as to what he
wanted to do. Kwon caught the interest of Sean of the hip-hop duo
Jinusean from YG Entertainment, who later recommended him to CEO Yang
Hyun Suk.
After signing a contract with the record label, Kwon spent the first year cleaning
the studio for the other artists in the record label and fetching them water
bottles during dance practice. From there G-Dragon worked by featuring
on other albums and working for 6 years before finally debuting with
BIGBANG. Those6 years he has described as the most difficult part of my
life. But it showed me and propelled me that my dreams could become a
reality.
Since his debut we have seen
G-Dragon propel his way through the charts and make the biggest impression
ever seen in the industry of music. Even if you dont like his music you
have heard of him in the world of Kpop almost the extent where he is
haunting. Even the biggest group in Korea to the day, BIGBANG, has been
heard or mentioned to
everyone in the music industry.
G-Dragon and CL decided to engage with us in a joint interview to express their
feelings on working together and living under the pressures and roof of the
company
YG Entertainment. CL and G-Dragon were very welcoming and hospitable to us
when we interviewed them on their music careers- READ PAGE 31 FOR
CLs INTERVIEW.
All of the rookies and artists at YG
Entertainment all live under the same
roof and get along as though they
are family. CL and G-Dragons
relationship is described as not one
that can be replaced. It is individual
and contains a trust which cannot be
compared. CL and G-Dragon joined
YG in the same year and both trained
together at the same performing arts
college (Seouls School for Gifted
Performers). CL told us that G-D
was always there to catch me if I fell
and make me laugh if I was upset
about anything. CL and G-Dragon
revised, ate and auditioned together.
They basically did everything
together!
