*Many people think is comes
from the change to the
French (frances) calendar.
*In the past (pasado), New
year started around April 1st.
*But in the year 1564 the
calendar was changed.
January 1st became the New
Year.
*Some people didnt like the change and still
celebrated New Years on April 1st.
*These people were called fools (tontos).
*It became normal to play jokes on these people
on April 1st.
*For example people would stick paper fish to
their backs.

*In the United States pranks last all
day, but in other countries pranks
can only be played in the morning.
*In Scotland April Fools is called Hunt-
the-Gowk Day.
*In Denmark April Fools is celebrated
on May 1st and is called Maj-Kat.
*In Spanish speaking counties such as
Spain and Mexico April Fools is
celebrated on December 28th the
Day of Holy Innocents.
*In Portugal they celebrate by
throwing flour in their friends' faces.
*Put food coloring in milk.
*Superglue coins to a floor.
