*Jasmine and Carson are taken to court*

Zach: It is against the first amendment to suspend the students and suppress their freedom of speech. The first
amendment protects students rights to display any message they want to, just as any adult can. The banner did
not interrupt or cause any issues, therefore it is within the boundaries of the first amendment.

Maggie: The reason the student was suspended was because of the promotion of illegal drug use which implied
the encouraged use of narcotics. The illegal use of drugs is prohibited in the school, as is the use of drugs
generally unless prescribed by a doctor. Myself, and the board, found it necessary to suspend the children
involved in the case for those reasons.

Hope: The court has ruled a 5-4 vote that school officials can prohibit students from displaying
messages that promote illegal drug use. Although students do have some right to political
speech even while in school, this right does not extend to pro-drug messages that may
undermine the school's important mission to discourage drug use. The message was reasonably
interpreted as promoting marijuana use - equivalent to "[Take] bong hits" or "bong hits [are a
good thing]."

Jasmine: How did you obtain this case?

Hope: As a Supreme court justice, we decided to use appellate jurisdiction to review the case.

Jasmine: What was the majority opinion on this case?

Hope: The majority opinion on this case was a majority ruling for morse.
Jasmine: Do you consider yourself an evolutionist or a traditionalist?
Hope: I would consider myself an evolutionist, I am a believer in judicial activism and I think
the court should help to shape the way the world is today.
