MEMORANDUM

TO: Brendan Washington

FROM: Charles Carroll
DATE: February 10, 2017
SUBJECT: Peer Review and Evaluation on Caffeine

CONTENT

First of all, your subject was very interesting. You did well to grab our attention by relating your
topic of caffeine to our lives. It immediately showed how we are affected by things that are
commonly around us. Talking about specific drinks and their effect on us also aided that. As an
audience member, I really felt I took away something important from hearing you speak on the
matter.

The bad news is that I wasnt immediately sure of what you specifically were talking about as
you talked point to point. Your points at certain times seemed a bit muddled, and this took away
from your impact on us a bit. When you first introduced us to your topic, it seemed fairly general
and didnt seem to have a focus at first. As you went on, that was quickly fixed, but it was still a
question for a minute.

Lastly, the cans and drinks you brought up as a visual aid were a good idea, but I wished you
couldve used them a bit more. I was a bit distracted for a time by the amount of bottles you had
on the desk in front of you. If you, for example, had used the nutritional facts a bit more to show
whats involved with your drinks and why certain things could be bad, then you wouldve had a
more hard-hitting speech.

DELIVERY

One of your biggest strengths as a speaker is your voice. Your natural tone control really helped
us keep attention. Your fillers every once in a while did take away from that, but if you manage
to control those, youd exude even greater confidence. Since you spoke at a mild speed, it was
easy to understand you, but the fillers that broke that up the speech broke your flow. Otherwise,
the way you transitioned from point to point was fairly smooth, despite the clarity issues.

The way you told anecdotes was spot on. They really showed us that things can go bad for any of
us. Plus, your addition of statistics in between stories was also nice. All of that really helped us
feel the gravity of what you were telling us. When it comes down to it, even if I continue to drink
my caffeinated drinks for the rest of my life, Ill surely remember what youve told us.
