This article comes from the Library resource and digs deep into what it is like to be a muslim
student. The journal article is written by, Darnell Cole and Shafiqua Ahmadi. The article talks
about high school and college students and touches on religion and academics. Jstor only
provides verified documents that come from credible sources. This is relevant to our topic
because it gives you a glimpse into what it is like to be a muslim student in todays diverse
education. This helps us understand the critical inquiry question Why is it important that we
attempt to understand muslim students in america? By having this background information we
begin to understand more about this community.

This report was done by Niraj Chokshi and Malachy Browne for the New York Times. The
article includes quotes from minority students at colleges all around the nation including, Texas
State, University of Tennessee, University of California, University of Louisiana, and Canisius
College in Buffalo. The article discusses what students have faced post Trump- election which
includes many violent acts. One student says, A lot of Muslim students are scared. New York
Times is a quality source of news information. They put out information that is accurate and
cited. The reporters were trying to call attention to the threat put on minority students and to
show the influence Trump and his Build the Wall campaign is having on his supporters. This
does not directly answer the critical inquiry question Now that Trump is elected, why do
students think it is okay to commit hate crimes against muslims and other minorities? but it does
clarify that this happening and shows how it affects muslim students which leads into the
question, Why is it important that we attempt to understand muslim students in america? This
article opens up lots of discussion and insight to why we should learn more about this
community.
